Transcript of "Evaluation Pt2. Combination of Main and Ancillary Products"

 1. 1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

We tried to ensure that our product and ancillary texts had consistency as, we felt that, if our products all had some recognisable similarities then there would be a higher chance of success for all three products as the target audience would be able to tell at a glance that all the product are promoting the same band.

 2. 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

All three products combined create a marketing or release campaign and this was another reason to ensure that there was consistency between all three products. For example, if the bands trademark logo was clearly visible on each product, then it would be obvious to a potential buyer that all products have been produced for the same band.

 3. 3. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

To ensure that the consistency between our three products is clear to the target audience we focused on certain things;

Fonts

Colours

Graphics

Band and singular members

Costume

 4. 4. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Font

The main font used in all three products is ‘Joyful Juliana’. This means that all products include a font that looks handwritten and almost scrawled across the page to anchor the idea that the band care only about their music, not about promotion, when in fact they do.

Band Name Album Name Single Name
 5. 5. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Colour

The colours used throughout all three products is also very similar. For example, the band members are seen to be wearing brightly coloured clothes, whereas the products are dull browns and creams. This has been done as it once again emphasises the idea that the band are all about music and image instead of promotion and sales.

The colours of the featured writing contrast highly with the plain black and white background of the advert, causing the audiences gaze to be drawn towards the information and images of the band members.
 6. 6. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Graphics

All products include a link to the band, for example, all feature the band logo, however, they do not all feature an image of the band. This is because, we have found it to be conventional of our chosen genre to not include the band members themselves on the album cover, but rather include images that provide the album with hidden messages and meaning.

 7. 7. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Costume

The costumes used throughout all three products are also fairly similar. All three members are continually seen in three quarter length shorts and branded t-shirts; for example, DC and Famous Stars And Straps. This is because these brand names are frequently seen throughout music videos of this genre, and also allow the audience an insight into the fashion sense of the separate band members, allowing them to connect with the band in another way.

 8. 8. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Band and Singular Members

The band members are all present in the music video itself and the magazine advert for the digipak release. However, it is obvious in both products that the lead singer is the most important member of the band. We have decided to do this as, we have found that, it is conventional within the music industry on a whole to sell their products through the lead singer. There are no images of the band members on the album cover and this is again down to conventions. Because of this our digipak will only link to the other two products via the chosen song, the colours and band logo.
