six‐forty series
As soon as I heard these words I sat down and
wept and mourned for days, and I continued
fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
(Neh. 1:4)
I humbled my soul with fasting…
(Psa. 69:10)
I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by
prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting …
(Dan. 9:3)
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning
(Joel 2:12)
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own Wlesh and blood?
(Isa. 58.6–7)
“And when you fast...” (Matt. 6.16 )
“While they were worshiping the Lord
and fasting ... Then after fasting and
praying they laid their hands on them
and sent them off” (Acts 13:2)
