Over the Hedges film cover and poster is brightly coloured and eye catching which grabs the audiences attention. The main two characters in the film have been standing on the hedge whilst the other characters are in the hedge below. This marks the characters importance with in the narrative where the racoon and turtle are leaders and the rest of the characters play sub plots in the narrative. In addition, the character placed on top create a social hierarchy in the film on a quest to escape over the hedge for food. The actors playing the characters in Over the Hedge are wrote in dark blue capitals to make them stand out and noticeable which is contrasted on a light blue background. All of the names are presented at the top of the poster which directly link with the characters on the poster. The characters with their friendly and inviting facial expressions make the reader want to watch the film and invites them in. Furthermore, this appeals to children. The barbeque grill is placed in front on the hedge which directly ties in with the title of the film. By the barbeque being placed in front shows that food is important in the narrative and by the title being placed besides it allows the audience to know what is over the hedge. The title on the poster has been made 3D, bright orange and bold. The title contrasts with the background colour of green therefore making the title stand out. This means that when we look at the poster our eyes are immediately drawn to the title. On top of the title, in white, the DreamWorks logo is presented this stands out because of the colour and used to show which production company has made the film. Knowing this means that we can remember other films which DreamWorks have been involved with remembering whether we have enjoyed films they have created in the past and may even go and watch other films DreamWorks has produced such as “Madascar” and “Shrek”. The poster chooses to include these on the poster as we may have enjoyed these and already have expectations of the film.
