  • charbeck1 charbeck1 The words to the poem

    Good Evening

I am not a teacher afraid of technology.
Or the changes this technology is bringing.

I do not live in front of a computer all night long
Or chat of facebook until dawn

    I have a family
    a life
but I fit this new technology in
Because kids want and will show there knowledge
using tools that might be foreign us but not to them

My classroom does not shut its doors at 330 and start at 9
But is open around the clock
Kept up to date by students scribing chatting and commenting instead of talk

I let kids use cellphones, ipods and laptops
but not necessarily all at the same time during class

I blog, wiki and dabble in video too

I assign homework that kids want to do
Even if it is at a quarter to two
Kids think in strange ways and at different times

    Students show growth in posts,
    create eportfolios
    and unprojects
    whats that...
    an unproject
How can a project be 'un'
    Kids decide
    How to present
    mash up
    Amplify knowledge
    Use tools they know
    to show share and publish

    to an audience
    of friends
    classmates and world visitors

Blogging gives all kids a voice
The quiet, annoying and uber intellegent
They are all equal no one is different.

My hero's are not Gardner, Blooms or Dewey (no offence boys)
But innovators like Kuropatwa, Fisher and Shareski

Why take this leap into feed the 21st Century learner you ask
Because they will teach you how to be a better teacher
They will find tools and create new learnings
They will inspire you to keep on teaching

When you get down and the 'special student' works
Completing a project is one of the perks

Take a first step or a second or three
You will enjoy the results you see

    Kids want to learn
    Publish and be heard.

    Hey homework gets done
Instead of being left in a locker.

I am a teacher of math but wait there is more...
I believe in less filtering, flickr, voicethread and blogspot.com
and if you want more about what I do go to releasethehounds.wikispaces.com

    I drink sliemans Honey Brown
    Not Romulan Ale

    Because
    I
