7 A Cells Lesson 3 Cell Structure - Presentation Transcript

    1. Objectives:
      • To be able to:
        • describe the structure and function of the different parts of plant and animal cells
      • Outcomes:
        • MUST be able to name and describe the functions of the main parts of animal and plant cells
        • SHOULD be able to describe the functions of the chloroplast and vacuole
        • COULD be able to identify the mitochondria and name the process that take place in them
    2. Animal and Plant Cells
      • Pictures of Cells
    3. Plant cells Therefore, if plants and animals are different shapes, they must be made of different shaped cells. Let’s have a look at the shape of a basic plant cell. Apart from the shape, the cell looks very similar to an animal cell. However, here is how the plant cell differs from the animal cell. Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Nucleus Starch Grains Cell Wall Vacuole (contains cell sap) Chloroplast (contains chlorophyll)
    4. Plant cells vs. Animal cells Both types of cell have these: Only plant cells have these: Cell wall – provides support Large Vacuole – contains sap Chloroplasts – contain chlorophyll Cell Membrane – holds the cell together Cytoplasm - this is where the reactions happen Nucleus – The “brain” of the cell 4) 1) 5) 6) 2) 3)
    5. Activity – animal cell
    6. Activity – plant cell
    7. IT: Label The Cell
      • Cell Drag and Drop
    8. A great way to visualize how a cell functions, is to become one! Make sure you have a cell membrane and a nucleus as a minimum. Then you can choose from the list and role-play cell activity. You can get people to stand in a circle, holding hands to represent a cell membrane. Then, get other people to be the nucleus and so on. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even dress up to represent the job of that part of the cell. Cell-play
