Social Developers London April 2013 Intro by Todd Chaffee. Our goal is to assist developers, entrepreneurs and digital marketers in the use of popular social platforms to both enhance and help market their projects. We offer a strong focus on the Facebook platform and increasingly the Twitter platform too. We hold monthly meetings every 2nd Wednesday at Google Campus in London.

    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013Facebook homeHow will features impact developers orbrands?Cover Feed (as seen on previous slide)User centric vs. app centricWhat does it really mean?Photos center stage again (last month we sawthe new newsfeed redesign) as seen on nextslide. Note how big photos and videos will be.They take up almost the whole feed.

    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013Back to cover feedTAKE AWAY: Develop content around people, but specifically around photos.Open graph will probably become moreimportant. Example “Angus cooked a recipeusing MyRecipeApp”FB confirmed: posts from liked pages will beincluded in cover feed. Opportunity for brands. No ads. Yet. Location based? Opportunity, butat the cost of bad UX?

    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013Chat HeadsGo from theater listings to google maps to carreservation to YOUR APP, all while keeping thechat with a friend at hand.Might change the way you think about thecontent your app makes available? No way to A / B test if people are using yourapp content for messaging due to privacy, sohow can we test for that? Focus groups mightbe one answer.

    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013No iOS version: A challengeNormally apps are quite similar between iOSand Android. Does app centric vs. user centricchange this?Same for Androids without Facebook HomeBegs the question: can we detect if the userhas Facebook Home?
    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013
    • SOCIAL DEVELOPERS LONDON APRIL 2013Unified MessagingVery cool feature. BUT is it just FB Messenger+ SMS?Strategic move for Facebook to 1UP thecompetition? Or will it be open with hooks forWhatsapp, Google+ and other messagingapps? Your App too?More general: it shows once again howstrategic mobile has become for FB. How manybrands still ignoring mobile and at what missedopportunity?
