B Increasing and improving agricultural extension and advisory services are a legacy outcome of Rio +20 that allows the knowledge-based infrastructure to continually adapt in agriculture.3. C Improving agricultural practices based on knowledge allows farmers to better meet nutritional needs, improve water use efficiency, reduce land use, or any of the other competing demands on farmer services.

Evidence of impact• Please give up to three bullets on evidence of the impact of your case example – ideally this should be quantitative data1. A Kenya: Mobile telephony for delivery of animal health services. The system works with a community animal health worker, who purchase veterinary drug kit and mobile phone at a subsidised price. Animal health assistants and ets working with the projekct also receive mobile phones. This system has reduced transactions costs and increased the efficiency of animal health care in area.2. B The Netherlands: Only private advisory services. A group of farmers get together and share an advisor. Both physical meetings and non-physical through internet. It´s cost effective and makes the costs for each farmer reasonable.3. C Kenya: Farmer to farmer extensions. Project of working with good exemples, using one farmer as a user of “best practice” and he/she spreads it to other groups .

Going to scale• Please give up to three bullets on messages on what is needed to take your case to scale e.g. What policy change is required ? – What investment is needed ?– and who needs to take action?• A Rural advisory services forms an essential knowledge sharing institution within rural development.• B Allocations must be more engaged in extension services and reform to more participatory approaches that are demand-driven and pluralistic.• C Policy makers needs to ramp up support, both in terms of long-term commitment and effective forms of financing, for rural advisory services taking into consideration the 5 central areas (best-fit approaches, pluralism, participatory approaches, capacity development, and long-term institutional support) above.
