  • What is a Rainforest?
  • What is a Rainforest?
    • They are forests with tall trees, warm climate, and lots of rain. In some rainforests it rains more than one inch every day! Rainforests are found in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. The largest rainforest in the world is the Amazon rainforest.

  • Why are Rainforests Important?
    • 1) Provide 20% of the worlds oxygen
  • 2) Provide home to many plants and animals
  • 3) Major Source of medicines and food 25% of ingredients in today’s cancer treatment drugs come from organisms only found in Rainforests
  • 4) Help regulate Earth’s Climate
  • 5) Protect against Flood, Drought and Erosion
  • Why are Rainforests Disappearing?

      • Come up with at least 5 reasons

  • Humans are the reason Rainforests are Disappearing!

    • The number 1 reason why rainforests are being cut down in Indonesia - 85% of the world’s palm oil comes from this region

    • Indonesia is the home to many wild animals – many of which are critically endangered

  • How can WE stop this?
    • People from around the world stoping deforestation!
    • 10 Action Agents from around the world are entering a contest to become part of a 3D Action movie to STOP deforestation and protect orphaned Orang-utans
    • Fundraising - $2.00 saves 1 sq. metre of land in Borneo
  • Dome Tree!
    • Dome tree will be the worlds largest tree. Initially constructed using steel and concrete, this 70m high tree will be coated with a fertilizer coating to accelerate the growth of strangler fig shoots. In approximately six years, this construction will be completely covered by a network of figs, and will become a rehabilitation centre for Orang-utans rescued by the O-Team.
