Novena to Divine Mercy Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy. In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her: “On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy ... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls.” The different souls prayed for on each day of the novena are: DAY 1 (Good Friday) - All mankind, especially sinners DAY 2 (Holy Saturday) - The souls of priests and religious DAY 3 (Easter Sunday) - All devout and faithful souls DAY 4 (Easter Monday) - Those who do not believe in Jesus and those who do not yet know Him DAY 5 (Easter Tuesday) - The souls of separated brethren DAY 6 (Easter Wednesday) - The meek and humble souls and the souls of children DAY 7 (Easter Thursday) - The souls who especially venerate and glorify Jesus’ mercy DAY 8 (Easter Friday) - The souls who are detained in purgatory; DAY 9 (Easter Saturday) - The souls who have become lukewarm. During the Solemn Novena leading to Divine Mercy Sunday, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should be offered each day for the day’s intentions. • 8. SELECT QUOTES FROM LIVING MERCY “In two thousand six, ... the first Lent after (Hurricane) Katrina, that's when we began to do the nine week novena on the nine Tuesdays prior to the feast of Divine Mercy. And, since the very beginning, it's just been nothing short of miraculous the way this Church is filled to overflowing on those nine Tuesday's prior to the Feast of Divine Mercy.” Fr. Miles Walsh, Pastor “When (the Our Lady of Mercy School comes) for that Holy Hour, when they get to the part of the chaplet, all the kids especially the older kids who think it's just not cool to sing, but all the kids really get into singing in the chaplet. And it's beautiful to hear nine hundred young voices singing the Divine Mercy Chaplet here in our Church. “ Deacon Richard Grant, Pastoral Associate “I really feel like the devotion to Christ's Divine Mercy in our Parish has been transformative. And I really have seen and witnessed in our people's lives concretely and just as a sense and feeling a definitive shift in holiness… I know I've seen on over and over again and heard countless stories of how our parishioners, our friends and family members have dealt with the tragedies of life with better grace and better support through their participation in this novena.” Randy Arabie, Liturgy Director “I think this (Novena) brings peace and openness to God and a realization of how much God loves us... I think that it brings peace and love of God and holiness to our whole community.” Carol Dazzio, Parishioner “I'm a human being and I make mistakes. And sometimes I make them faster, as fast as I can. And I need the mercy of Jesus in my life at all times; and with my children; and just in the ordinary life.” Theresa Henderson, Friend “Because of the Divine Mercy Jesus, my family was able to stay together, because as humans we're weak. You know, sometimes we can't forgive or we don't want to do what it takes to make certain relationships work. It's just too hard. But it was kind of easy for me, because I knew God had taken over.” Mary Rosenbloom, Divine Mercy Cantor “The actual Divine Mercy devotion stimulated me to become a Eucharistic minister at the nursing homes several years ago... And, invariably, each time I go to the nursing homes, several will ask me at the end distributing communion, "Please don't leave you. Can you spend more time with me?" And I hear Christ asking me that question, and I try to respond.” Lloyd Plaisance, Parishioner “Sunday evening my husband and I went to bed ten o'clock. (Hurricane Katrina) was a 5 when we went to bed. At one am, our daughter's husband called us from Florida, begging us to leave, to get out of (New Orleans) because the storm is going to a category ten… we made it here to Baton Rouge… The next morning I went to go immediately to church to thank God for doing this for us. When I got to the church, I couldn't believe it that the name was Most Blessed Sacrament. And all I could think was, ‘You are St. Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament.’ And I went, ‘Oh, you want Divine Mercy here.’ “ Margaret Beiser, Friend “That's main thing I see in the Divine Mercy, and value for a nursing home resident, is hope… the Chaplet of Mercy becomes a direct intervention…(the residents) can pray for mercy, for anything in their life that would need mercy, and also mercy for others in their family and friends. “ Deacon Eugene Brady, Nursing Home Chaplain “Divine Mercy Novena has made a big difference in this parish: the number of people coming to Church. Only I wish that, when we come to Novena, experience this Mercy of God, not just to keep it for ourselves. Try to give part of that to other people…One way to promote it is telling other people what we experienced, what goes on when we come here, the spiritual experience they had. So share this with others. This is a beautiful way of promoting what we have.” Fr.
