Our life is changing Smartphones & Tablets enable access to data stored anywhere from any point as well as controlling other devices Growing demand of downloading digital multimedia data from the internet instead of buying „static“ medium like CDs or DVDs Cloud Computing allows storing and executing private as well as business data inside the internet The internet is everywhere – we get used to access the internet anywhere, anytime: on our TV, on the mobile phone, while we are on vacation The change and transition to decentralized networks in power distribution requires communication on the power networks 2011/09/13 2

Adding new devices into a home network Adding a new device into the home network must take care of the following aspects:  Plug & Play – the network and the new device must have tools to do an automatic detection  Authentication and authorization must happen automaticially or has to be simple  Encryption for a tranmission on shared media must be highly secure but easily to be configured 2011/09/13 10

The center of home networking – the residential gateway The residential gateway device has to fulfil several tasks:  Secure connection to the internet  Authentification and authorization of new devices being added to the network  Platform to install apps on a GW middleware which allows the access and control of Control via Apps devices in th enetwork (e.g. DLNA, proprietary control for SW heating, light, etc.) Home Gateway with Middleware Framework for Control Apps (e.g.: OSGi, Android@Home, etc.) 2011/09/13 12
