  • 1. An Extraordinary Christmas Gathering With cancer stricken kids of Medical Social Services, Philippine General Hospital
  • 2. Imagine a world without childhood cancer. No painful chemotherapy treatments. No emotional stress on children and their families. No financial sacrifice. No inequity No abnormal look; inquisitiveness
  • 3. You have not lived a perfect day, unless you have done something for someone who will never be able to repay you… Ruth Smeltzer
  • 4. About Chikdhood Cancer
    • In the Philippines, about 3,500 children fall victim to cancer every year. The most common pediatric cancer is acute lymphoblastic Leukemia.
      • Metro Manila cancer registry records in three hospitals, show that eight kids/one very 3 hours, die everyday. Many more cases and deaths remain unreported
    • In developed countries, childhood cancer survival rate is as high as 95%. In the Philippines, sadly, it is only 10 to 30%. Of ten who are diagnosed, only two/three will most likely survive. They die because they are poor, unable to afford the high costs of medication and treatment.
  • 5. Challenges of Cancer Stricken Kids
    • Schooling brings to halt
    • Risk of relapse and occurrence of secondary cancer
    • Medical treatments and psychological struggles
    • Poverty
    • Discrimination
  • 6. Being diagnosed with cancer can be overwhelming. Cancer is the great equalizer. It strikes randomly and unexpectedly It doesn’t discriminate. It chooses the athletic. It chooses the artistic. It chooses the smart. It chooses the rich and the poor. Children as young as a few months, barely able to talk and walk, can already have cancer. Really, it chooses whoever it wants.
