1. 1. CEED 2007 Qualifier Series
 2. 2. What next after CEED Qualifying

Congratulations!

Get ready for the next steps

 3. 3. Models of seat allotments

No Value to CEED score or rank

Places like IDC, IITB do not have any value to your ceed score, they allot completely based on your performance in test and interview

Some % of value to CEED score

There are some places, especially the new places (Old times IDDC, IITD) they used to have 40 to 50% wt. to the CEED score and rest on your performance in test and interview

Value to CEED or Gate Score

Some allow any of the scores from Gate or CEED, but I think this has been stopped now.

 4. 4. Good News!

Qualifying CEED has just made you walk up to the last door of the selection process!

 5. 5. Next steps for you

Filling up the forms

Tests

Interviews

 6. 6. Filling forms

Forms will contain

Essays

Product drawings

Personal profile

Note: Not all forms will ask for all this info. So you can just refer to respective sections in this presentation

 7. 7. Filling up the forms …1

Forms will contain

Essays

This is generally about some product, some situation or sometimes about your own personal life. They need to be brief and crisp. Try writing these down else where and get it reviewed too before updating.

 8. 8. Filling up the forms …2

Drawings – typically products

These are key to success, during interview these could be potentil target for getting questions so try to keep it simple and clean. Before drawing anything try the same elsewhere, learn about product renderings on some online sites. Sample sites are given below

- http:// www.cube.net.au/concept.htm

- http:// www.cardesignonline.com/design/sketching/index.php

Typically for the products you draw, you may have to write some explanation about why do you think they are good or bad in usage or on any evaluation. Do not just say “I donn like it’s color, it not useful, you have to be very crisp about it and also mention why do you think so.

Example : Handling of this product by left hand while I’m driving is not great so it lacks in usage during driving.

Very IMP - Do not get the drawings done by others – interviewers are smart enough to easily find out if you drew the same

 9. 9. Filling up the forms …3

Personal info

This is general info about you, and it’s self explanatory

 10. 10. What’s after the from filling

Test

Personal panel interview

 11. 11. Tests…1

Tests are conducted in respective premises where you will be admitted to.

Tests will include upto 3 problems

Open ended problem

Problem with constraint

General knowledge (optional)

Typically you have 2 to 3 hours for the test

Drawing is essential for all the questions

Test for Product, Visual design, Animation design may be different

(The format may change, so be careful)

 12. 12. Tests…2

Open ended problem

Sample problems:

Design a torch for people riding bi-cycle

Water bottle for college students

Design a webpage for kids in India for Games

Do not copy and try to create/design the products same way as you see in

market or at your home.

Build few one or two element of surprises or new ideas which are catchy and

you can explain in better fashion in the interview

Think about the user who will use the product, what he will be doing while using

The product, environment, light condition, monitory valuation, problem in mass

production etc etc.

Example embedding a diamond in the torch here is a wrong design 

 13. 13. Tests…3

Problem with constraint

Sample problems:

Design a shoe rack from 20 meter steel wire of dia. 6mm and a metal sheet of size 5feetX5feet

Design a cage for your beloved parrot “Ballu” using Paper, wire, cloth and few buttons

You have to make a pamphlet for promotion of a beauty product – XYZ cream in rural India for distribution. Come out with a design showing actual visual look, branding, etc.

Create a icon for the Olympic in Bejing, also write down a philosophy behind your design.

 14. 14. 15. 15. Product Design

This stream is to do with the products which you use, see around you and which are more physical in nature.

Typically the interviews will be on –

Your design of the product,

What’s so great about your design?

Any constraints your design has

Why these colors are used?

Interviewers may have some products with them and they may ask – what is it made from?,

Sometimes they may have a small componenet of the product “say handle of cooker” and they will ask do you know which product’s component this is?

Typical questions on materials, day to day observations, your personal profile, manufacturing processes for various objects and products etc .

Open ended questions like – what was the most creative stuff so far you have done in your life, why do you want to come to this college? (Think on this, this is tricky) and next question will be why do you think so?

 17. 17. Animation Design

Character – Think of a kids icon like spider-man for India, who would it be? and what kind of stories can be written around him/her?
