CEA Spanish Visa Tutorial for Study Abroad

Get your Passport NOW! <ul><li>You will need a passport: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>With at least one completely blank page </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>That is current for at least 90 days BEYOND the program end date. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Check the State Department website: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Expedite your passport if necessary! </li></ul><ul><li>Sign your passport. </li></ul>

Student Visas for Spain <ul><li>If you are a U.S. citizen and your program is over 90 days, you must have a Spanish Student Visa. </li></ul><ul><li>You may NOT apply for a student visa after you are in Spain. </li></ul><ul><li>120 days prior to departure, students must visit the website of the Spanish Consulate for their jurisdiction. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The student then gets a list of requirements for obtaining a Spanish Student Visa. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Consulates and jurisdictions are included at the end of this presentation. </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. When to Apply <ul><li>Start the process ASAP! </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Some required documents can take several weeks to arrive. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Generally, you cannot apply for a student visa until 90 to 120 days before your program start date. </li></ul>

Application Deadlines <ul><li>Consulates give students a window of opportunity to complete the visa, which can vary depending on the Consulate: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>60 to 90 days before the Program start date. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>60 to 120 days before the Program start date. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Some Consulates require an appointment. </li></ul><ul><li>In the past, Consulate appointments have booked up early. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Make your appointment as early as possible! </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>No “rush” applications will be processed by the Consulates. </li></ul></ul>

Requirements <ul><li>Download and print from the Consulate website: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The Application for Schengen Student Visa </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The list of required documents </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Requirements vary from Consulate to Consulate and can change at any time. </li></ul><ul><li>Incomplete visa applications will not be processed, so double check everything before you apply! </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Visa Packet <ul><li>Once you are a Confirmed student, CEA will mail the VISA PACKET to you. The packet contains: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>CEA Proof of Enrollment Letter </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Proof of Enrollment Letter from Spanish institution (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami Consulates only) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Proof of Medical Insurance </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Financial Guarantee Letter </li></ul></ul><ul><li>These documents are crucial! </li></ul><ul><li>Do NOT lose them! </li></ul>

Complete the Application <ul><li>Fill out all required forms. </li></ul><ul><li>If you make a mistake while completing the application: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Print out a new form and start over </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Spanish Consulates will not accept documents with anything crossed-out, written-over or with white-out. </li></ul></ul>

Questions <ul><li>All questions regarding visa applications should be directed to your designated Spanish Consulate. </li></ul><ul><li>Students can contact the Consulate by e-mail, phone, fax, or in person. </li></ul><ul><li>Consulates can be hard to reach! </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Refer to the consulate website whenever possible. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>CEA sends e-mail reminders to students which contain: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Visa requirements </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Visa Application guidelines </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Consulate updates </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Print these items and read them! </li></ul></ul>

You must drop off and pick up the visa in person.  Make your appointment ASAP! </li></ul>
