SpotCrime.com's approach to data collection and display presents a unique perspective in providing timely crime information to citizens.

Our approach is to take crime incidents from multiple sources, geocode the data and mash the data to a Google map.  Sources include call data and reported incident data from the police department as well as news reported sources.

Once combined into a database, incidents are then distributed through multiple platforms including email, SMS, and RSS.  The purpose of the data collection and distribution is to inform the public of crime events to increase awareness and participation in the reduction of crime.

Additionally, with data from multiple sources combined into one database, we anticipate new trend discoveries helping crime prevention.
