Department History:<br />School of Informatics Career Services Office<br />Established 2005<br />Launched Services / Began Teaching Career Planning<br />2006: Career Specialist was hired (2 member team)<br />Departmental Budget Created<br />Success during Economic Downturn - Continued Building Department / Majors were Hired<br />Watching and Hearing about Budget Crisis at Universities<br />Began Planning for Future Practice Changes<br />
  5. 5. Situation:<br />Economic Downturn created Budget Awareness<br />Technology Era – Going GREEN becomes Trendy<br />Publication participation becoming Expensive<br />$$  $$$$<br />Innovative Brainstorming to Decrease Costs<br />Produced Ready for Work 2010<br />=<br />+<br />

Ready for Work 2010<br />Idea generation: IBJ & Previous Employment Brochure<br />2010: 1st Innovative attempt (pilot stage)<br />Results – what worked:<br />Employers and students loved the idea! Both provided feedback and hiring occurred<br />Giving Employers direct access to students<br />What did not work:<br />Timing seemed off (unveiled late Spring)<br />Reflected upon efforts for change<br />Collection/disbursement time change, GREEN idea!!!<br />

Ready for Work 2011<br />2nd Pilot changes:<br />December – began collecting information from students<br />January – compiled content for final publication<br />February – started sending publication to employer contacts & visiting career fair events<br />Results – Differences:<br />Employers and students love the idea and effort!<br />Career services approached employers with information packets at career fair event (on- and off-campus)<br />Employers received information during a heavier recruiting period and ask for additional information for majors across campus<br />

Moving Forward:<br />Shared efforts with IUPUI Career Services Council members (14 schools)<br />Future publications are being considered by the IUPUI Career Services Council to provide to employers at career events<br />Sharing a best practice that works for employers and students<br />Looking forward - Ready for Work 2012<br />
