E-Rate Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund http://www.usac.org/sl/ It is a way for schools to apply for funding for technology. It only applies to connectivity. Applicants must have a plan which includes five elements. Goals and realistic strategy for using telecommunications Professional development strategy Assessment strategies Budget resources On-going evaluation
MES Technology Plan 2011-14 Where Bright Futures Begin
Goal #1 Increase the opportunity for student learning and achievement through the seamless integration of technology into instruction in learning and teaching across the curricula. Time and place is no obstacle Web based exchanges of teaching and learning
Goal #2 Students and staff will be provided a safe and orderly environment in which all can learn and work. Appropriate use Monitored campuses Instruction on the use of technology such as social networking for students
Goal #3 Leadership promotes shared vision and policies that encourage innovation with technology to increase student achievement. Tech. Steering Committee Student access to instruction away from school
Goal #4 Provide district-wide staff development programs to ensure effective use of emerging technologies with emphasis on instructional programs. Proactive teacher engagement Build a wireless infrastructure Train teachers on technology integration
Goal #5 MISD will support integration of technology into administration and instruction by providing and maintaining adequate network connectivity, hardware, and software. Establish parity among the campuses Wireless networks Maintain user equipment Maintain operating systems
In Conclusion: Students’ needs demand technology. Teachers demand technology for instruction and proficiency. Technology demands planning and budgeting. E-Rate is one way to achieve supplying our learning community with technology resources.
