Editor's Notes
Welcome to the tutorial that will teach you how to take the CDA Exam on a computer.
1. During the entire exam you will need to use the computer mouse. As you move the mouse, an arrow moves on the screen. Use the arrow to point to things on the screen and to select them. Clicking is used to select an object on the screen. Press the left button on top of the mouse once and release it immediately. You will have made your selection with this simple click. During the entire exam you will be pointing and clicking.
2. This is how you will see the CDA Exam questions, and here you will point and click. The questions will be presented to you one at a time. Become familiar with this screen. Make sure it shows the correct Exam name and your name.
Sometimes the question and all answers do not fit on the screen. If the screen shows a photo and is full of text, it is possible more text is hiding and you cannot see it. If that is the case, you will see the scroll bars on the side of the screen. Click and hold down the mouse button on the arrow to move the screen down and review the text that is hiding.
To move between questions use the Previous and Next buttons. Point the mouse arrow to the Next button to see the next question. You may also click the previous button to move back. During the entire exam you may freely move between the exam questions.
To choose your answer, point the mouse arrow to the circle next to the answer you think is correct, then click. Once you click, the circle will become black to show this is the answer you chose. You may freely change your answers during the exam, until you complete the final review and submit your answers.
You can use the Exam screen in three other ways. You may always see how many questions you have left and how much time you have left. If the clock is distracting you, you may point your mouse to it, and click on it to hide it.
Even if you hide the clock, you will still receive two reminders about the amount of time you have left, so you do not need to worry about being surprised that your time has run out. Close the time warnings and proceed with your exam.
The progress indicator will show you the number of questions you already read and how many questions are still ahead of you.
If you are not sure of your answer, you may flag it for review by clicking the Flag button. At the end you will be reminded about the questions you marked for review. We advise you to always try to answer a question, even if you mark it for review. When your time runs out, if you leave a question without any answer it will be marked as wrong and will impact your Exam results. It is best to even guess your answer, flag it for review, and come back to it if time allows.
At the end of the exam you will see a summary screen. The screen will show you the questions you did not answer – marked as incomplete, and questions you flagged. Check the clock to see how much time you have left to review your questions. You may then review all the questions, the incomplete ones, or the ones you have flagged for review. When you are done, click the end review button.
The final step is to submit your answers to the Council for Professional Recognition. To do that, click the End Exam button.
You are done! This tutorial walked you through all the features of the CDA Exam. Remember, the exam consists of 65 questions and you will have one hour and 45 minutes to complete it. For all the Exam details, please download the CDA Exam Preparation Guide on our website.
