  • Undergraduate Studies ePortfolio Carmella Constantinous Psychology, 2011
  • Personal Statement
    • My ultimate goal is my doctorate in psychology, however, I am detouring before I begin this process in graduate school because I need to obtain my masters in higher education for my job as program director of the medical assisting program at Manatee Technical Institute.
    • Learning has been a passion of mine for much of my life and I enjoy passing on what knowledge and information I have acquired through my experiences to others. While at times it has been a great challenge it is very rewarding being able to help other succeed in their personal and professional lives.
    • After I obtain my master’s in education I plan on returning to psychology and obtaining my doctorate in psychology with a focus in clinical psychology primarily because it is my desire to work in grief counseling. A couple of months ago I was 5 ½ months pregnant and I lost the baby. The impact that this has had on my life has been tremendous and it has only been with the help of a grief counselor that I have been able to slowly work through it. This experience has helped to reshape my life and resulted in changing my ultimate goals.
    • One of the main interests that I have are mostly spending time with my daughters. Between teaching full time (and being program director) and school I have precious little time to pursue any of my interests or hobbies so my children have become my sole interests. My passion for reading has gone from mysteries and history to fairy tales! Some of the other interests that I have are different cultures and museums. Cultures are fascinating and it is interesting to see how an individual’s culture influences every aspect of their life. Museums are interesting and there is so much that history can teach us. I am particularly interested in Egyptian and Greek history.
    • Some of the skills that I have to offer are active listening, instructing, teamwork and critical thinking. Active listening has helped me to learn about other people. It has also benefited me in my job because I have learned to really listen to what people are saying. I have learned to instruct students in a variety of ways that is effective in helping them learn and achieve their goals and when a technique that I am using is not effective I use my listening skills and develop a different technique to help them grasp the information. This has made me a better instructor. Teamwork is essential to the success of any organization or relationship. I have learned to develop skills in teamwork that help contribute to the success of my relationships and also at work. Critical thinking skills are essential to the success of any business or organization and I have learned to use these skills to the success of our medical assisting program.

  • Reflection
    • Some of the things that I have learned since I have been with Argosy is mostly in the research area and the APA format, which I have never used prior to attending Argosy. One of the areas that I really think that Argosy did a great job in was exposing me to an abundance of diversity. It is so important to understand that there are differences among us and individuals that are the underlying motives to our behaviors. Another area that I believe Argosy did a great job in exposing me to was the interpersonal effectiveness: Active communication skills. I believe that active communication is so important because if we do not possess the ability to communicate we are unable to build meaningful relationships in our personal or professional lives.
    • I believe that overall I have learned a tremendous amount and both my academic skills and my personal life. I believe that it has helped me prepare for graduate school and has helped to sharpen my skills in my profession as a teacher in my current job.

Argosy has given me many of the tools that were needed to continue not only my education, but my skills in critical thinking. Critical Thinking
  • My Future in Learning
    • Since learning is a lifelong process I envision that my future as a lifelong learner will be an ongoing task by continuing my education in taking classes. I also look forward to having the opportunity to go to graduate school this coming summer. It is the second step of a three step plan to reach my ultimate goal.
    • I look forward to learning more on the many aspects of doing research and especially in the department of social and cultural psychology.
