  • 14. Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action
    • The Heritage Health Index (HHI) report concluded that our nation’s collections are imperiled and in need of swift action in conservation and public awareness.
    • Connecting to Collections will encourage response to the four key HHI recommendations:
      • Provision of safe conditions for the collections;
      • Development of emergency plans;
      • Assignment of responsibility for caring for collections to institutional staff;
      • Public understanding that caring for collections is an investment in the future.
  • 15. Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action
    • The National Conservation Summit – June 27-28, 2007
    • Four Regional Forums, to begin in January 2008
    • The Conservation Bookshelf to be given to over 2,000 museums and libraries
    • Statewide Planning Grants
    • The initiative will raise public awareness of the importance of collections care, underscoring the fact that our nation’s collections are a vital part of our history and America’s story.

    • Theme for 2007 WebWise Conference was “Stewardship in the Digital Age: Managing Museum and Library Collections for Preservation and Use.”
    • The focus of this signature IMLS initiative is to share the latest research and newest innovations in digital technology, exploring their potential impacts on library and museum services.
