Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action <ul><li>The Heritage Health Index (HHI) report concluded that our nation’s collections are imperiled and in need of swift action in conservation and public awareness. </li></ul><ul><li>Connecting to Collections will encourage response to the four key HHI recommendations: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Provision of safe conditions for the collections; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Development of emergency plans; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Assignment of responsibility for caring for collections to institutional staff; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Public understanding that caring for collections is an investment in the future. </li></ul></ul>

Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action <ul><li>The National Conservation Summit – June 27-28, 2007 </li></ul><ul><li>Four Regional Forums, to begin in January 2008 </li></ul><ul><li>The Conservation Bookshelf to be given to over 2,000 museums and libraries </li></ul><ul><li>Statewide Planning Grants </li></ul><ul><li>The initiative will raise public awareness of the importance of collections care, underscoring the fact that our nation’s collections are a vital part of our history and America’s story. </li></ul>

Annual WebWise Conference <ul><li>Theme for 2007 WebWise Conference was “Stewardship in the Digital Age: Managing Museum and Library Collections for Preservation and Use.” </li></ul><ul><li>The focus of this signature IMLS initiative is to share the latest research and newest innovations in digital technology, exploring their potential impacts on library and museum services. </li></ul>
