History of BLAIDS<br />Established in 1991 in response to high rates of HIV/AIDS infections and low admission rates to four-year universities in the Black and Latino communities. <br />The goal of BLAIDS is educating the Black and Latino communities about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the pursuit of higher education.<br />The Black Latino AIDS Project (BLAIDS) is a collaboration between two campus organizations<br /> Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO) <br />Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM). <br />

What does BLAIDS do?<br />Information distribution<br />Condom distribution<br />Sites on campus at UCLA<br />High School presentations<br />Collaboration with other on campus groups- Proyecto de Jornaleros, Latino Student Health Project, Black Hypertension Project<br />Increase awareness about HIV/AIDS<br />Tabling in De Neve Plaza<br />Condom Demo at a HS Site<br />

BLAIDS Mother Organizations<br />BLAIDS mother organizations are Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO) and Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM) <br />BPHO meetings are held Tuesdays of even weeks at 5pm in the SAC.<br />CCM meetings are every Tuesday at 6pm in Franz 1260. http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/ccm/<br />BLAIDS Directors 2009-2010<br />

Volunteering with BLAIDS<br />BLAIDS volunteers do not have to be members of either of the mother organizations as long as they attend a BLAIDS training (held at the beginning of each quarter), or attend a director’s office hour.<br />The BLAIDS office is in SAC 106E with all of the other health empowerment organizations of the Community Programs Office. <br />
