  2. 2. <ul><li>What Do Liaison Librarians Do? </li></ul><ul><li>Liaison Librarians are subject specialists who serve as the primary contacts between the library and an academic department, program, or group of scholars with special needs in common.  </li></ul><ul><li>The essence of the role played by a Liaison Librarian is to foster two-way communication between the library and academic divisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Liaisons offer numerous specialized services, including discipline-specific research consultations, information about topics in scholarly communication (for example, copyright), library instruction, and general information on library services.  </li></ul><ul><li>Liaisons also develop and manage specific subject collections, and they may be contacted directly for questions about these collections.  </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Liaison Librarians… </li></ul><ul><li>Maintain regular communication with academic divisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Build effective working relationships between library staff and faculty. </li></ul><ul><li>Improve and increase the use of library services, collections, and content delivery tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Enhance the role of librarians as spokespersons for the library. </li></ul><ul><li>Seek to strengthen communication channels between the library and academic divisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a unique set of activities based on the needs of the academic division and disciplines served. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The Liaison Librarian… </li></ul><ul><li>Is well informed about the library’s collections, services, policies, resources, as well as the technologies used to delivery them, and skilled in interpreting and promoting their effective use to faculty and students in his or her academic divisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Is knowledgeable of the subject matter and nature of the teaching and research conducted by the academic division, particularly with regard to changes in teaching and scholarly communication within the discipline. </li></ul><ul><li>Works together with teaching faculty to ensure that relevant information, access skills and content delivery tools are incorporated into academic programs at all levels. </li></ul>
