INDIA P800 - CSI Redfern Memorial Hospital Eye Services Partner: Church of South India Karnataka Southern CSI Redfern Hospital is a 150-bedded general hospital belonging to the Church of South India supported by CBM since 1984 for its eye department. It caters largely to the population in Hassan District, Karnataka. In 1998, a 48 bedded ophthalmic department was built. The project covers a population of 17 million, and is promoting eye care in Hassan District by focusing on prevention and cure of blindness, especially cataract.

Community Based Rehabilitation worker Leon examines a little boy BURUNDI P1312 - Integrated Services for the Handicapped People of Bujumbura Partner: Communuate Des Eglises Emmanuel This Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Programme in Bujumbura covers a population of approximately 400.000 people. Services to people living with physical and visual disabilities are rendered through home visits by fieldworkers. The CBR project also offers support to a school for deaf children and a small eye unit which runs a weekly consultation and operating day.

NIGERIA P1284 - Christian Vocational Training Centre "Elim" Partner: Methodist Church Nigeria Igede Diocese The Christian Vocational Training Centre is a comprehensive, community based rehabilitation (CBR) programme covering a large rural area in Benue State in central Nigeria. About 300,000 people are living in the area. The project, in partnership with the Methodist Church, is managed by a committee involving representatives from all the protestant churches active in the area. There are considerable efforts to establish income-generating projects. These include a bakery, a business centre, an optical shop and a carpentry shop.

CAMBODIA P2313 Community Based Rehabilitation Project Partner: Cambodian Development Mission for Disability There are a total of 13 members in this group with a variety of different disabilities Before the group started the people felt isolated and had little independence - but when they became members they felt more confidence and felt more supported. They now have support from other group members so that they can share their experiences and have emotional support from people who have also gone through similar experiences. British co-worker Helen Sinkinson talks to a group of disabled people in Cambodia to explain how to set up a ‘self-help’ group
