  • NURSES GET A SUFFICIENT DOSE OF SATISFACTION Almost ALL (94 percent) nurses say they’re satisfied, very satisfied or extremely satisfied with being a nurse. Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the most satisfied of them all? Hospice nurses — with nearly 4 in 5 saying they're extremely or very satisfied.
  • NURSES GET A SUFFICIENT DOSE OF SATISFACTION Almost ALL (94 percent) nurses say they’re satisfied, very satisfied or extremely satisfied with being a nurse.   • NURSING SEEMS LIKE A PRETTY HEALTHY PROFESSION TO JOIN More than 8 in 10 nurses would advise someone to pursue a career in nursing. Those in hospice, home care and ambulatory are most likely to recommend nursing as a profession. Tweet this.
  • SOME NURSES MAY BE FLIGHT RISKS When asked "Where do you see yourself in five years?" 2 in 5 nurses said they can see themselves staying at their current job for at least five years, but a third aren't so sure. Tweet this.
  • IS NURSING EDUCATION KEEPING UP WITH TODAY’S DEMANDS?
  • DIRECT PATIENT CARE IS SUFFERING Fi y-one percent of nurses say they spend more time on patient documentation than they did five years ago, leaving them less time for direct patient care. In fact, more than 2 in 5 nurses say they're spending less time on direct patient care overall. Tweet this.
  • ON-THE-JOB TRAINING HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS IMPORTANT Really important, in fact: 67 percent of nurses say informal, rather than formal, training has been most helpful to manage the job's clinical demands. Tweet this.
  • NURSES ARE GETTING A LITTLE HELP FROM THEIR FRIENDS About 2 in 3 say they have had a mentor to help them learn the ropes. Nurses in a hospital or hospice se ing are most likely to be assigned a mentor, while those in skilled nursing and home care are least likely to be paired with one. Tweet this.
  • EMPLOYERS MAY NEED TO NURSE MENTORING BACK TO HEALTH More than half of nurses say their employers offer a mentoring program for new hire nurses. Of the employers that don't? Forty-three percent say it's because experienced nurses don't have enough time to mentor and 41 percent say management hasn't bought into the idea. Tweet this.
  • IS TECHNOLOGY HELPING OR HINDERING HOW NURSES DO THEIR JOBS?
  • TECHNOLOGY TRAINING IN NURSING EDUCATION NEEDS SOME RESUSCITATION The vast majority of nurses (90 percent) say informal training has helped them with the technological demands of their job. In fact, more than 3 in 5 say informal, rather than formal, training has been most helpful in learning this vital skill. Tweet this.
  • DOES TECHNOLOGY DEPERSONALIZE THE HEALTH CARE EXPERIENCE? More than half (57 percent) of nurses believe technology helps them do their job more effectively, and half believe it helps them do it faster. The downside? Nearly half (46 percent) claim it has depersonalized patient care. Tweet this.
  • IS IT ABOUT TO GET WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER? Fi y-eight percent of nurses believe recent changes to the health care system will make their workplace less efficient, and 47 percent believe it will bring down cost-effectiveness. Relatively few feel the effects will be positive. Tweet this.
