  • HR and Me
    • By Joe C
  • Why did I choose HR? +
  • Sports and HR
    • I’ve been a competitive athlete my entire life
    • Little did I realize, sports and human resources are strikingly similar

  • Sports and HR (cont’d)
    • The objective of any competitive sporting event is to win
    • To do this, a coach and the captain(s) must utilize all of the team’s players to the best of their abilities
    • Translated to HR lingo: an HR manager must figure out how to get the most out of his employees in order to best suit the needs and strategies of the company
    • Having been an athlete my whole life, I realized that I could use my experience in sports to leverage a career in human resources
  • So what about the second half of the equation?
    • 3 years of Alternative Spring Break
    • I had the privilege of being the Student Coordinator for the ASB program my junior and senior year of undergrad at MSU
    • This role was also very HR-oriented as it involved recruiting, leading, effectively communicating, and delegating people to skill-specific tasks...
  •
    • My experiences with sports and alternative spring break have resulted in me gaining a passion for HR
    • Upon completing my Masters of HR and Labor Relations at MSU, combined with my summer internship with Frito Lay, I am confident that I will be prepared to take on an exciting career in the field of Human Resources
