20. 20. WHY?
History (histor= person who knows) has the reply
21. 21. Greek grandparents’ values in 1940’sfreedomrespect justiceand a lot of work
Internal environment: Greeks had wars, refugees, country devastation, no production and income. They had to work or immigrate.
After WWII, civil war lasted more… until 1949
1952 Greece joins NATO
10 years of struggle and poverty
22. 22. 1950’sMarshall plan US money fled to poor Greece
Between 1950 and 1973, Greece had an average rate of economic growth of 7%, second in the world only to Japan’s during the same period.
Growth rates were highest during the 1950s, often exceeding 10%, close to those of a modern "tiger economy" (industrial production grew annually by 10% as well, for several years, mostly in the 1960s).
23. 23. Tourism, shipping, agriculture
Agriculture islands
shipping boost
24. 24. That fact made our parents angry and fight for the values of freedom and justice
and resistance created a leftish need in politics
Internal political instability 1967 Military Junta rules Greece for 7 years
31. 31. Europe was a Greek myth
And modern Europe needed an identity
That was the reason that Greece joined EU, not its market or strong economy..
And also Europe had leaders, that do not exist today..
32. 32. Greece joined EEC at 1981
Zappion, Athens
Our parents values
work, democracy, education
33. 33. =CHANGE
Stability, peace, and change was Greek people request for decades…
And at the next elections Greeks rewarded Karamanlis, by sending him home
Andreas Papandreou, son of the ex Prime minister George Papandreou and father of current one, a populist leftish, wins 1981 national elections with 48%
Lessons learned:
history repeats itself
Paradox is also a Greek word.
