    1. Str. Pius X School November 3, 2009 www.catholicYMblog.com
      • Our youth love luxury, they have bad manners; contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.
      • Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households.
      • They no longer rise when elders enter the room.
      • They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tranize their teachers.

      • Communio et Progressio, published in 1971, highlighted a quote from Pope Pius XII's 1957 encyclical letter Miranda Prorsus, the Pastoral Instruction on the Means of Social Communication. It reads that "The Church sees these media as gifts of God' which, in accordance with His providential design, unite men in brotherhood and so help them to cooperate with His plan for their salvation" (2)
      • Technology is never merely technology. It reveals man and his aspirations towards development, it expresses the inner tension that impels him gradually to overcome material imitations.
      • Technology, in this sense, is a response to God's command to till and to keep the land that he has entrusted to humanity, and it must serve to reinforce the covenant between human beings and the environment, a covenant that should mirror God's creative love.
      • Human freedom is authentic only when it responds to the fascination of technology with decisions that are the fruit of moral responsibility.
      • Hence the pressing need for formation in an ethically responsible use of technology.
      • Moving beyond the fascination that technology exerts, we must reappropriate the true meaning of freedom, which is not an intoxication with total autonomy, but a response to the call of being, beginning with our own personal being. (70)
      • We should not stay away from our assembly, as is the custom of some, but encourage one another, and this all the more as you see the day drawing near.
      • Hebrews 10:25 (NAB)

    22. What is Social Media?
      • A conversation powered by technology between people.
      • The conversation is not centralized or controlled. It is powered by the desire to share information and learn.
      • It cannot be successful unless you listen before you respond.
