  • 2. Effective teams are ones in which everyone is aware of the different roles and responsibilities of each member and are able to respect the work of others and the different roles they play in the team.
  • 3. Who might you be working with? Complete Activity 2.1
  • 4. Effective Teams Effective teams are also ones in which everyone: Is clear about the goals of the group Is committed to the group Works co-operatively Shares information Completes assigned tasks Works to an agreed standard
  • 5. Effective Teams •Effective teams are also ones in which every Is flexible Willing to actively listen to the ideas of others Contributes ideas and suggestions Is able to put aside personal goals Respects the ideas and values of other members
  • 6. Communicating effectively in teams For teams to work successfully people in the team need to communicate their opinions and ideas in a clear and concise manner All team members should also make sure that they share information that will help others to get things done. This can be referred to as positive communication
  • 7. Positive communication skills For a team to work effectively, it’s essential that team members have the skills to communicate positively. By communicating positively co- workers need to be able to express their ideas and concerns in a clear and calm manner.
  • 8. Communication styles When we think about communication styles the 3 most common we refer to include: Passive Assertive Aggressive
  • 9. WHAT COMMUNICATION STLYE ARE THESE BIRDS EXHIBITING?!
  • 10. PASSIVE Passive communicators tend to let others have their way as they don't let others know how they are feeling or what they are thinking.
  • 11. ASSERTIVE The most effective communication style to use is to be assertive. This allows you to express your ideas and concerns in a manner, which will engage the listener and can lead into developing strategies for your suggestions to be put into actions.
  • 12. ASSERTIVE Assertive communicators value both their ideas and the ideas of others and so state clearly what they want and why but also ask others for their input.
  • 13. AGGRESSIVE Aggressive communicators use force or intimidation to get what they want. They don't appear to care what others want and demand that their ideas are heard and acted upon.
  • 14. Reflecting on being part of a team Complete Activity 2.2 also referring to the slide below as part of this activity.
  • 15. Job advertisement WORKING IN 2 GROUPS Write a job advertisement seeking an effective team member to work in 1) a children’s service and 2) a mobile preschool. Think about the qualities and characteristics of an effective team member.
  • 16. Discussion of Assessment Task 2 – Team Building Exercise to be completed next week (Week 9 10/9/2013) – with the follow up report due Week 10 (17/9/013)
