Cy Q Good One - Presentation Transcript

    1. If you do not forward this on to 15 people you will have bad luck for 10 years.
    2. Spamming is where you receive annoying attachments through emails that can send viruses through your computer. They Th can also be links, such as pop ups that you may l b li k h th t occasionally click on. Things like where they say you have won a free trip to Hawaii or a free iPod, are usually just links that will spam H ii f iP d ll j t li k th t ill your computer, so don’t click on them. That doesn’t mean that when ever you receive an email from a friend with an attachment it’s going to be spam, it s spam sometimes they may be sending you a picture you wanted or something. But they may be sending you a virus unintentionally because they might already have one on their computer, so it’s a good idea, when opening attachments to have a virus scanner on your computer so that you can check it out firstfirst.
    3. You should only give your email out to people who you know and trust. Your email is like your entry onto the internet and is generally what you use for sites such as MySpace and facebook. Sending those chainmail emails also to a bunch of people is an easy way for spammers to get heaps of other peoples f t th f th l email addresses. You should protect your privacy by never using your full name or correct address or contact details and by making sure that all of your profiles are set to private.
    4. Many parents freak out about the internet and think that it’s just a major place where their kids can get into all kind of trouble. However, the internet’s a pretty cool place where you can chat to mates, upload photos and gather info for research. While there are some downsides and danger to going on the iinternet. Th t t These iincidents aren’t h id t ’t heard of as often as you may d f ft think, and if you cyber-up and get a high cy-q you will be fine. ☺
    5. PRACTICE CYBER SAFETY Top 5 ways to stay safe . • Don’t give out your full name, EVER. • Don’t add people you don’t know on-line. • Don’t give out personal details, d t il such as birth d t h bi th date, address, etc. • Do not agree to meet people you do not knowknow. • Set all your profiles to private…including pictures.
    6. Is shopping online safe? Many people shop online on different websites and have no trouble at all. On the internet there are many sites such as eBay and Amazon where people sell and buy stuff all th ti A h l ll db t ff ll the time. This is generally a safe thing to do but you don’t just buy from anyone. On sites such as eBay they have the sellers information and y y their ratings out of 100% So if a previous customer has bought from the same person and wasn’t happy with the way the seller operated or th time it took to get the product they can leave the ti t kt t th d t th l negative feedback, and if most of the feedback is negative then you know not to buy from that seller.
    7. Passwords help to keep your accounts safe, so that they can’t be hacked into and you wont have people changing your account details or writing something that may not be that nice. Passwords work well when they are words, (or codes) that will not be easy to guess, like your birthday or favourite colour. Good passwords can include things like capital letters, with a combo of words and numbers. e.g. PassWord01
    8. When you are talking to people who you don’t know on msn or don t chatrooms, it can be hard to tell if they are who they say they are. Good advice would be to not agree to meet anyone who you only know via the internet and to generally not speak to too many strangers on the net. If you do speak with people who you don’t know personally don’t g give out any private information, don’t tell them where you live, yp , y , and don’t give them your real name. When speaking to people who you don’t know, if they ask for your mobile or home number, do not give it to them!
    9. Some of the common mistakes p p make people online: They give out their full names Their profiles are not set to private They think that all online shopping sites will only steal their money. They give contact details to people who they only know via the internet, (strangers.) They open silly pop ups such as the free iPod scam and suchsuch. They don’t have virus scanners on their computers.
    10. When you’re online doing research for school it’s not always right to agree with anything that has been put on the iinternet. t t While most sites will tell the truth and give you the correct information, websites such as Wikipedia, where anyone can go h Wiki di h online and edit the pages can sometimes give you misleading information. information The best way to avoid getting the wrong information is to look on numerous sites and see if there is an opinion or fact that comes up a lot or on most of the sites.
