What is a Volunteer Vacation?
Casa Guatemala is an orphanage that is home to over 250 children
In an effort to be financially self-sufficient, we operate a nearby Backpacker’s hostel
We are now offering short-term volunteer opportunities travelers looking to make a difference in the world
Spend your days working with the children at the orphanage and your nights relaxing in the hotel

What the package includes
7 Nights in a shared dorm room in the Backpackers hotel
6 breakfasts,
6 dinners
6 lunches with the children in the orphanage
Transportation daily to and from the orphanage
(We will pick you up from the Airport and give you a room in our house in Zone 10, plus drive you to the bus station in the morning for an additional $20)

Volunteer Activities
Depending on your skills and interests, you will be offered many different opportunities during your stay which include:
Helping in the English Classes
Arts and Crafts
Story time in the Library
Computer lessons
Working with the Kindergarten classes
Helping with the gym classes
Working with the Agriculture classes
Helping the kids with homework
Sharing your love and attention!

Volunteer Requirements
Volunteers from around the world of all ages are welcome at Casa Guatemala. To make sure that you get the most out of the experience we recommend the following:
Basic Spanish skills
An open mind in working with different cultures and with limited resources
Patience and respect for the children, staff and fellow volunteers
A strong work ethic
Minors must have parental consent and adult supervision

Groups
Volunteer Vacations is also available as a group package for your school, church, club or with your family or friends. We can help you with fundraising ideas and to plan a project that you will be able to fund and create with your own hands! Projects vary based on the needs of the orphanage but include:
Repainting part of the children’s houses, dining hall or school rooms
Making repairs in the school, on the farm, play areas or children’s homes
Planning a toy drive and working with Santa at Christmas to hand out toys to over 600 children from around the area!
(All group projects are supervised and assisted by trained local staff on site)

Local Activities
There is plenty to enjoy while you are in the area of Rio Dulce! Volunteers are welcome to take a day off relax at the hotel or enjoy some of the local wonders like:
The ruins of Tikal, Quirigua or Copan
The hot water falls of Finca Paraiso
A trip to the Carribean Garifuna village of Livingston
A tour of the Biotop Nature Reserve
