Video Coursework What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your - Presentation Transcript

    1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
    2. Production Studio
      • From our research I thought that Legendary Pictures (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Watchmen) would be the production studio most suited to our film as they are renowned for producing dark vigilante films such as Batman, similarly to the plot of our film.
      • However, I believe that our film could also be a Film4 style production as it is a low budget British film. While it doesn’t conventionally fit in with their previous output, it doesn’t require huge special effects and could be seen as fitting in with other gritty Film4 films such as In Bruges.
    3. Distribution
      • I believe that our film could be released on Fox Searchlight Pictures as it would be a low budget British film, which Fox Searchlight is renowned for backing.
      • I think that our film would receive a limited release in the UK as it would not have a large budget and therefore would not have a large publicity budget so as to recoup the money spent on production.
    4. Marketing
      • I believe that our film would be picked up by these production and distribution companies because it has a potential mainstream audience. The Shadow has similarities to films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and even films such as Die Hard in which the primary character(s) are out for vengeance and The Shadow would appeal to these audiences.
    5. Viral Marketing
      • For The Shadow I think that a tactic that could be used would be some sort of viral video detailing the initial shooting of the main character’s girlfriend, perhaps a fake news report from the scene. This would increase the word of mouth publicity that this film would have, similarly to the ‘I Believe in Harvey Dent’ viral video campaigns that were used for The Dark Knight, which I focused on in the Research and Planning.
    6. Promotion
      • The Shadow could be promoted online through Youtube with exclusive content such as teaser trailers or scenes from the film.
      • Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace could be used to create pages and groups for fans of the film which would create discussions and therefore more publicity for the film.
