RESEARCH
• To start we researched current Apps and picked ones we found
     interesting.

• There are already over 500,000 Apps available in the categories of:
• Health and Leisure
• News
• Social Networking
• Entertainment
• Education
• Lifestyle
• Games
• Kids
• Music
• And LOADS more.
INITIAL IDEAS
TRANSPORT APP
•Our first idea was to make an App that would help people by telling them about some form of transport.

TAXI PLANE
We asked some people what they •We also thought about having an plane tracker App
would find useful and they said that a that would allow someone to enter the flight information
Taxi App would be good because it’s and be able to watch a map that shows where the plane
hard to track where your Taxi is by text is.
and phone.

We thought this idea will have almost
certainly already be made, so we
decided to steer away from it.
FASHION APP RESEARCH
Our second idea was to make an app that looked at all clothing websites
   and
then put outfits together for the user. We looked at some current apps:
Outfit history app Debenhams app River Island app

This app lets you store
pictures of yourself in
different outfits so you can
These two Apps are used to shop at their
look back at them. One specific shop online.
criticism of the app was that
the pictures where too small.
TARGET AUDIENCE
• Our target audience is people around 16-30.

• We asked a group of people aged 16-26 about what they would what from the
    App.

• The most common answers where-
• Something that is easy to navigate
• Works quickly
• It takes budget into account
• You can easily scan through a range clothes

• Our App would be used for someone who doesn’t have time to sit at a computer
    and
• flick through website after website so we had to make sure that the App was
    simple and
• had all the correct functions.
FASHION APP – 1ST IDEA
This was our first mock up
of the outfit App. The idea
                                                             is you select male/female
                                                             then the style you want.
                                                             The app will then generate
an outfit it thinks to suit
                                                             your needs.
                                                             We thought it could be
                                                             improved by having more
                                                             options to help narrow the
                                                             search more.

FEEDBACK FROM USERS-
• The blue makes it look like it’s just for boys.
• The price slider is a good idea.
• They wouldn’t know they had to swipe to move to the next image.
•It would be good if the I Phone’s camera could scan your body shape and find outfits to
suit your body type.
SYMBOLS AND COLOURS
• We looked into how we could use colours in our App.
• We thought about colours that people commonly associate with different sexes.
We also used the symbols for girl and boy instead of writing it because they are
    well known.
• We wanted the clothes to be the easiest thing to see.
• We looked at the squint test, which is where you squint your eyes to see which
area of the screen stands out the most.

• We also looked at how different colours are associated with different seasons.
• For example, 'Bright playful colours and soft pastels for spring/summer-
customers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a
    brighter day‘.
HEURISTIC PRINCIPLES
• Visibility of system status
This says that the system should keep users informed about what is going on
through feedback within a reasonable time. As the user presses a button, it
either highlights or proceeds to the next screen.

• Match between the system and the real world
Our system uses concepts which are familiar to them: for example, the touch
screen and sliding effect have been used previously in different applications.

• Aesthetic and minimalist design
The interface only contains the necessary buttons for the user in order not to
    confuse them.
FASHION APP – 2ND IDEA
                                                         This was our 2nd idea,
                                                         we changed the
                                                         background colour to
                                                         grey and added in a
                                                         colour select section.

                                                         However we thought that
it was all a bit too dark
                                                         and nothing really stood
                                                         out.

USER FEEDBACK-
• A bit dull
• Felt like I had to strain my eyes to see the writing.
• Still looks a bit more aimed at men because of the dark colours.
WIRE FRAME FOR FINAL IDEA
LOGICAL PATH AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Shape
Shape is the primary way to
                                 Position
recognise what an object is
                                 Conveys hierarchy
Requires a high level of
                                 Most important element in the
concentration, we use male
                                 top left corner
and female symbols so that
                                 Can create spatial relationships
the user would know straight
away that that is the choice
they need to make. Size
Hue Larger = more attention
Differences draw attention
quickly
                                 Value
Meanings from social context
                                 Light or dark
Can’t be relied upon as a sole
                                 Contrasts in value are
communication vector (colour
                                 perceived quickly by the
blindness)
                                 audience
Limited number needed
                                 High contrasts demand
                                 attention
FINAL FASHION APP
Characteristics of our final
app:

•Male and Female symbols
• White back ground
•We added the dots at the
bottom of each section to
prompt swiping.
• The logo is in the top left
corner.
• Price slider.
• Options button so you can
select different things on each
part of the outfit.
• Basket, in the top right
corner.

                                  Feedback:
                                  • Looks a lot brighter than the 2nd idea.
                                  • The options to choose are straight forward.
                                  • The simplicity of the design makes it easy to follow.

Our first app

  • 1. OUR FIRST APP Katrina MacColl, Caroline Innes, Liam Fisher, Ant Elstob, Cathi Watt
  • 2. RESEARCH • To start we researched current Apps and picked ones we found interesting. • There are already over 500,000 Apps available in the categories of: • Health and Leisure • News • Social Networking • Entertainment • Education • Lifestyle • Games • Kids • Music • And LOADS more.
  • 3. INITIAL IDEAS TRANSPORT APP •Our first idea was to make an App that would help people by telling them about some form of transport. TAXI PLANE We asked some people what they •We also thought about having an plane tracker App would find useful and they said that a that would allow someone to enter the flight information Taxi App would be good because it’s and be able to watch a map that shows where the plane hard to track where your Taxi is by text is. and phone. We thought this idea will have almost certainly already be made, so we decided to steer away from it.
  • 4. FASHION APP RESEARCH Our second idea was to make an app that looked at all clothing websites and then put outfits together for the user. We looked at some current apps: Outfit history app Debenhams app River Island app This app lets you store pictures of yourself in different outfits so you can These two Apps are used to shop at their look back at them. One specific shop online. criticism of the app was that the pictures where too small.
  • 5. TARGET AUDIENCE • Our target audience is people around 16-30. • We asked a group of people aged 16-26 about what they would what from the App. • The most common answers where- • Something that is easy to navigate • Works quickly • It takes budget into account • You can easily scan through a range clothes • Our App would be used for someone who doesn’t have time to sit at a computer and • flick through website after website so we had to make sure that the App was simple and • had all the correct functions.
  • 6. FASHION APP – 1ST IDEA This was our first mock up of the outfit App. The idea is you select male/female then the style you want. The app will then generate an outfit it thinks to suit your needs. We thought it could be improved by having more options to help narrow the search more. FEEDBACK FROM USERS- • The blue makes it look like it’s just for boys. • The price slider is a good idea. • They wouldn’t know they had to swipe to move to the next image. •It would be good if the I Phone’s camera could scan your body shape and find outfits to suit your body type.
  • 7. SYMBOLS AND COLOURS • We looked into how we could use colours in our App. • We thought about colours that people commonly associate with different sexes. We also used the symbols for girl and boy instead of writing it because they are well known. • We wanted the clothes to be the easiest thing to see. • We looked at the squint test, which is where you squint your eyes to see which area of the screen stands out the most. • We also looked at how different colours are associated with different seasons. • For example, 'Bright playful colours and soft pastels for spring/summer- customers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day‘.
  • 8. HEURISTIC PRINCIPLES • Visibility of system status This says that the system should keep users informed about what is going on through feedback within a reasonable time. As the user presses a button, it either highlights or proceeds to the next screen. • Match between the system and the real world Our system uses concepts which are familiar to them: for example, the touch screen and sliding effect have been used previously in different applications. • Aesthetic and minimalist design The interface only contains the necessary buttons for the user in order not to confuse them.
  • 9. FASHION APP – 2ND IDEA This was our 2nd idea, we changed the background colour to grey and added in a colour select section. However we thought that it was all a bit too dark and nothing really stood out. USER FEEDBACK- • A bit dull • Felt like I had to strain my eyes to see the writing. • Still looks a bit more aimed at men because of the dark colours.
  • 10. WIRE FRAME FOR FINAL IDEA
  • 11. LOGICAL PATH AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Shape Shape is the primary way to Position recognise what an object is Conveys hierarchy Requires a high level of Most important element in the concentration, we use male top left corner and female symbols so that Can create spatial relationships the user would know straight away that that is the choice they need to make. Size Hue Larger = more attention Differences draw attention quickly Value Meanings from social context Light or dark Can’t be relied upon as a sole Contrasts in value are communication vector (colour perceived quickly by the blindness) audience Limited number needed High contrasts demand attention
  • 12. FINAL FASHION APP Characteristics of our final app: •Male and Female symbols • White back ground •We added the dots at the bottom of each section to prompt swiping. • The logo is in the top left corner. • Price slider. • Options button so you can select different things on each part of the outfit. • Basket, in the top right corner. Feedback: • Looks a lot brighter than the 2nd idea. • The options to choose are straight forward. • The simplicity of the design makes it easy to follow.
