  • 2. 1. Where does the story take place?  It takes place in a village in Peru.2
  • 3. 2. Who is the main character in the story? A boy who tells the story is the main character.3
  • 4. 3. What big event will happen soon in the village?  Carnival,a big celebration, is happening in three days.4
  • 5. 4. How does the boy feel about the event? Why?  He is very excited because he will play his quena with the village band during Carnival.5
  • 6. 5. What does the boy practice for three days?  He practices playing his flute. He wants to play well.6
  • 7. 6. What does the boy’s family do to get ready?  The family plants potatoes, the boy takes llamas to find grass, the mother spins yarn. The family harvests potatoes planted earlier.7
  • 8. 7. Where does the family go with the potatoes? When do they do this?  On the third day they take the potatoes to the village to sell.8
  • 9. 8. What will happen after all the potatoes are sold?  Carnival will begin. People will bring out their costumes, and the boy will play his quena.9
