Within the stitched cowhide or horsehide exterior is alayer of yarn wound around a core of cork or rubber.• Bat - A wooden bat, often made from an ash tree, is at most 42 inches (107 cm)long. At its widest, the bats barrel is 2.75 (7 cm) in diameter.• Glove - Depending on a players position, a fielding gloves dimensions will vary.Generally, gloves are leather with a woven section to aid in catching the ball.• Helmet - These head coverings are worn to protect players from injury.• Cleats - Shoes with spikes all the way to the toes distinguish baseball cleats fromthose worn for other sports.• Batting glove - Not required, but most players wear them to prevent blisters frombatting and friction burns from sliding into base.• Padding and mask - Catchers need extra padding and a face mask to protectthemselves during play.
