  • Carlos Santos Perez<br />Mary Chelys Quinones Seminar<br />In this seminar first of all Quinones discuss about what is electromagnetic resonance. She indicated that this realm of the science has many applications like: Chemistry, biology, Medical Science, Material Science, Anthropology and also Physics. Quinones said that magnetic resonance is the absorption or emission of electromagnetic radiation by electron, protons or neutrons. There is also some types or techniques that refer to the Electromageneti Resonance: <br />Nuclear Magnetic Resonance<br />Electron Paramagnetic Resonance<br />Magnetic Resonance Imaging<br />Superconducting Quantum Interference Device<br />In the case of NMR is the absorption of electromagnetic resonance to determine or scan the structural model or an isoform or a molecule. This magnetic resonance of the NMR exploits only the nuclei of the atoms so that is the protons and the neutrons. It can be divided also in the liquid NMR and the solid NMR with the principal difference that the solution NMR can determine the structural of a Protein but the solid NMR establish the structure of solid molecules that can be dissolve in the water. On the other hand if we talk of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI it is a medical test that it’s not invasive. It can be use for the study of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology. This MRI is based in the principles of NMR. <br />In addition the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance has a radiation type of microwave. Also this type of electromagnetic resonance is based on the presence of a free radical or an unpaired electron that are in the orbital. It has to be established that this is based in the monochromatic radiation. This type of magnetic resonance is use specifically to analyze: radicals, birradicals, most of the transition metal ions, molecules in triplet states, and paramagnetic defects in solids. With all this information of introduction Quinones design a methodology to observe the work of the proteins during the active transport through the plasma membrane of an animal cell. This electromagnetic resonance technique allows her to observe a graphic of the abortion spectrum and als the action spectrum of the different proteins that she wants to observe. With this technique she also obtains the g facto that is the measurement of the intrinsic magnetic moment of the graphic. She have to analyze that form the curves of the graphic. In action she expressed that when you work more with this graphic then you should learn the different curves and what does that indicate to the researcher? <br />She expressed that his is a scientific approach, to observe the behavior of a protein, because the scientific community can research more about the protein that are a very important and fundamental biomolecule to maintain life in the earth. Also the 30% of the human genome it is for the production of the proteins. This can represent a very big approach to lean about the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetics of a drug that is under research. Also the scientific can research about some types of virus because we know that virus is structures that are conform by protein and DNA. With this technique we can identified what type of virus is and how this virus invade the host cell. <br />In conclusion she said also the discussion of the article. She said that his technique can be utilized with every kind of protein and enzyme. <br />
