Pride and prejudice-behind the scenes Pride and prejudice-behind the scenes Presentation Transcript

  • Pride and Prejudice- Behind the scenes
    • Th e two oldest sisters are very different from the two younger girls who are always giggling and behaving in a silly way. And there is Mary in the middle, who doesn’t really know what she is doing.
    • In those times, opportunities to meet rich and handsome husbands were quite rare so when the occasion did arise in the form of a ball you couldn’t miss it.
    • People didn’t really touch in that period so the first time Darcy (played by Matthew Macfadyen) touched Elizabeth was when he helped her to get in the carriage. Today, we don’t think about that at all. Macfadyen confesses that in his opinion Darcy ”may appear to be a bit arrogant, pompous, dreadful but he is just misunderstood, he is just shy.”
    • Pride and Prejudice has been voted the most romantic book of all-time. From its first publication, the relationship between the pride Liz z ie and the prejudice Darcy has been firmly established as one of literature’s great love story.
    • T he overwhelming affection for the two central characters , Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, gave the production a huge responsibility to get the casting absolutely right. The reason why the director didn’t choose a pretty boy for Darcy is because he is more interesting and more complicated than that.
    • I n really simple terms, when Elizabeth and Darcy first meet they fancy each other. He can’t deal with the fact that he likes her so they behave like children in the playground: they hit each other, he pulls her hair, she gives him a slap and now they are enemies. But then , something happens, and they are just perfect together.
