5. ELDERLY SERVICES RESOURCES
OFFERED
The Salvation Army’s Elderly Services helps thousands of older adults every
year by offering them a place to gather to share interests, develop new skills,
and enjoy the company of their peers. (salvationarmyusa.org)
The resources available vary by location and include:
• Caring Partners Adult Day Program provides respite to caregivers of the mentally or physically
disabled so they can work or manage their responsibilities outside of caregiving. (salvationarmynorth.org)
• Cool Zones provides a place to stay cool during the hot summer months. (sandiego.salvationarmy.org)
• Education Services provides information on health and wellness, changes in Medi-
Cal/MediCare, and assistance with better manipulating/utilizing available systems
• Family Literacy Program exists to improve literacy and life skills for individuals and families and
embraces Adult Education. Space in the Program is limited, and admission’s testing is

• HomeCare Program preserves the independence, dignity and quality of life for seniors who

• Hospice is provided 24/7 and includes inpatient and community care, bereavement support,

• Independent Living Units provide one or two bedrooms units for the low-income elderly.

7. ADULT REHABILITATION SERVICES
OFFERED
Adult Rehabilitation provides spiritual, social, and emotional assistance for
men and women who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and
provide for themselves.
The Rehabilitation Centers offer:
• Clean and healthy living environment;
• Good food;
• Work therapy;
• Group and individual therapy;
• Physical and spiritual care to re-enter society and return to gainful employment; and
• An opportunity to reunite with their families and resume a normal life

8. HARBOR LIGHT CENTERS
Harbor Light Centers brings hope to those who have fallen captive to
substance abuse. Each center provides:
• Detoxification services
• Residential treatment
• Transitional housing
• Outpatient treatment

9. CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE
The traditional red kettle is an integral part of the Christmas scene,
with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families,
seniors, and the homeless
Donations and financial assistance provide:
• Christmas dinners
• Clothing
• Toys for families in need
Volunteers distribute gifts to shut-ins in hospitals and nursing homes,
and shelters are open for sit-down dinners.
• Many families receive aid over a period of months after the
Christmas season, as well as people struggling with difficult
family, emotional, or employment problems.
• Holiday assistance programs are administered locally

10. ONLINE RED KETTLE
“$2.1 million was raised for programs supported by Online Red Kettle funds to
help provide:
• toys, clothes, gifts, meals and hope at Christmastime to over 4,000,000 in need
• joys of summer camp to over 200,000 children in need for the first time
• warm beds to over 10,000,000 homeless families and children
• donations to over 1,200 family stores to fund programs for adults in need of physical
and spiritual rehabilitation and mentoring
• disaster relief funds to help disaster victims rebuild their lives one day at a time” (The Salvation

When you donate goods to The Salvation Army, those goods are then sold
through Salvation Army Family Stores.
When visiting these businesses, you are shopping, saving money and helping
others in your community.

• Serves families from all walks of life

13. FAMILY STORES CONT.
The proceeds from Salvation Army Thrift Stores are used to fund Adult
Rehabilitation Centers. These centers help people with addiction find help,
hope, and a second chance at life.
These proceeds:
• Fund Adult Rehabilitation Centers
• Go directly to charitable work
• Provide thousands of employment opportunities ("Doing The Most Good", 2015)
Items that don’t sell due to stains, rips, and wear are sent to:
• Recycling market and are made into other products such as upholstery stuffing
• Sent to other countries to serve the poor and suffering on a global scale.

14. COMMUNITY CARE MINISTRIES
Purpose:
• To raise awareness and vision for ministry by presenting opportunities for service that
demonstrates the Love of Christ.
• To motivate, mobilize and train volunteers to carry out Christ’s commission to care for
those in need.
• To be ministries that respond to the changing needs in our communities.
Objectives:
• Provides regular and seasonal visitation to hospitals, nursing homes, institutions and
private homes in the community.
• To provide comfort, cheer, and when possible, material assistance to those in need.
This ministry also provides the hope of Jesus Christ.
• This ministry is provided through individuals and organized groups.

15. COMMUNITY CARE MINISTRIES
CONT.
Membership:
• Men & women, Salvationist and non Salvationist volunteers who are at least 14 years of
age. (Young people 6-14, may become Junior Community Care Ministries Members).
• Those involved should have a willingness to serve in whatever capacity needed.
• CCM worker should possess a genuine Christian experience and a sincere personal faith.
• The non-salvationist volunteer must exhibit a love and compassion for people.
