  • 1. Producers Ecosystems
  • 2. Components of a Food Chain
    • PRODUCERS
    3. CONSUMERS 4. DECOMPOSER
    • SUN
  • 3.
    • Producers are organisms that can make their own food using air, sunlight, and water
  • 4. Producers
    • Green plants and algae are producers
  • 5. Photosynthesis
    • Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food using the sun’s energy, water and carbon dioxide.
  • 6.
    • Without plants there would be no food (energy) for the rest of the food chain.
    • ALL energy in every food chain begins with the sun.
  • 7.
    • Producers capture the sun’s energy and turn it into food using photosynthesis.
  • 8. Photosynthesis
    • * Formula for photosynthesis:
    CO 2 + H 2 O + sunlight  O 2 + C 6 H 12 O 6 = Oxygen + Glucose Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight
  • 9. These stomata on the leaves are used for gas exchange
  • 10. Most of the energy is captured in the leaves
  • 11. Close-up of a Chloroplast!
  • 12. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts
  • 13.
    • Plants absorb light primarily using the pigment chlorophyll .
    • There is so much chlorophyll it mask the other pigments
  • 14.
    • Tomorrow we are going to determine what other pigments are found in plants
    • Paper chromatography
  • 15.
    • Lab safety is extremely important!!!!
    • Do not put your hands near your mouth
    • Chemicals are harmful
    • Follow all directions and if you are unsure….ask first!
