Producers

 1. 1. Producers Ecosystems
 2. 2. Components of a Food Chain

PRODUCERS

3. CONSUMERS 4. DECOMPOSER

SUN

 3. 3.

Producers are organisms that can make their own food using air, sunlight, and water

 4. 4. Producers

Green plants and algae are producers

 5. 5. Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food using the sun’s energy, water and carbon dioxide.

 6. 6.

Without plants there would be no food (energy) for the rest of the food chain.

ALL energy in every food chain begins with the sun.

 7. 7.

Producers capture the sun’s energy and turn it into food using photosynthesis.

 8. 8. Photosynthesis

* Formula for photosynthesis:

CO 2 + H 2 O + sunlight  O 2 + C 6 H 12 O 6 = Oxygen + Glucose Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight
 9. 9. These stomata on the leaves are used for gas exchange
 10. 10. Most of the energy is captured in the leaves
 11. 11. Close-up of a Chloroplast!
 12. 12. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts
 13. 13.

Plants absorb light primarily using the pigment chlorophyll .

There is so much chlorophyll it mask the other pigments

 14. 14.

Tomorrow we are going to determine what other pigments are found in plants

Paper chromatography

 15. 15.

Lab safety is extremely important!!!!

Do not put your hands near your mouth

Chemicals are harmful

Follow all directions and if you are unsure….ask first!
