Ummm, hate to break it to YOU (guestf56bb4), but all references in this plastic warning are made up and can be easily confirmed as untrue. If you stick to the points being argued, every one of them are false. Why don't your actually READ the snopes article first before condemning it, it only presents facts.

Ummm, hate to break it to you, buddy, but Snopes has been wrong on several occasions. In fact, their recent track record isn't great. By the way, most plastics are made from petroleum--OIL. Just because dioxins aren't breaking down and killing you, there are a few others that can do the trick, too: Bisphenol-A is nasty, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) breaks down into a metal called antimony which causes the same health problems as lead and in large enough doses, it can kill you. Look for that in your bottled water. Snopes, as well as a few other urban myth sites, msed the boat on this one. The fact is, no major studies have ever been done until recently. and there are several underway currently. Expect those warnings to start being taken more seriously in the future!

    peace

    • A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.
  7. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
  8. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Recently,... Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.
  9. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers... This especially applies to foods that contain fat.
  10. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body...
  11. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food... You get the same results, only without the dioxin.
  12. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
  13. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.
  14. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...
  15. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave.
  16. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
  17. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • Cover food with a paper towel instead.
  18. Cancer Update from John Hopkins
    • This is a presentation that should be sent to anyone important in your life!
