  • 11. Isaiah 53:6We all, like sheep, have goneastray, each of us has turned toour own way; and the LORD haslaid on him the iniquity of us all.
  • 12. Sheep are dumb(You wont find sheep acts in the circusbecause they cant be trained to perform). Sheep are unintelligent & they dont learnfrom mistakes but in fact often repeatthem. They tend to wander & go astray &are unable to find their way home to thesheepfold even when it is within sight!
  • 13. But knowing this theshepherd nevertakes His eyes off Hiswandering sheep
  • 14. Defenseless (No quills likeporcupines, scent like skunks, clawslike cats or teeth like lions). Asheeps bite is harmless. Most haveno horns. Unable to defendthemselves against attacks. Lambsare especially vulnerable & in needof protection.
  • 15. Sheep drown easily (wool soaks up the water& they sink to the bottom). If they get on their backs they cannot rightthemselves. Kicking & bleating doesnt helpalthough their cries can alert the shepherdwho sets them on their feet again.
  • 16. They don’t have a good sense of danger andare unaware of what may hurt them.Often a sheep will wander into a briar patchor fall over a cliff in the rugged Palestinianhills. The shepherd tenderly searches for his sheepand carries it to safety on his shoulder, wrapped in his own long cloak(Luke 15:3, 4, 5, 6).Sheep depend TOTALLY upon their shepherd.
  • 17. Need meticulous care: Phillip Keller(1) writesthat"Sheep do not "just take care of themselves" assome might suppose. They require more thanany other class of livestock, endless attentionand meticulous care."In water-hungry Syria and Palestine, shepherdshave always had to search diligently for water, sometimes for hours every day for they knowthat the sheep must be watered daily.
  • 18. Sheep have actually been known to nibblethemselves over the cliff! That is dumb! But as you say it or think it, rememberthat "sheep" are a metaphor for men! Sowhat is the great need for mankind?Clearly without a tender, caring shepherdwilling to lay down his life for the sheep, they would surely perish & so it is with allmen who do not have a "Good Shepherd"WE ARE THE "SHEEP".
  • 19. The LORD is MY Shepherd =Psalms 23
  • 20. A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd,I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in greenpastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3 He restores my soul;He guides me in the paths of righteousnessFor His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through thevalley of the shadow of death,I fear no evil, for You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before mein the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil;My cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness andlovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
  • 21. The LORD is MY Shepherd =Jehovah Roi. He is not just "a"Shepherd or "Israels" Shepherd, but is my own personalShepherd.
  • 22. The LORD is MY Shepherd =Psalms 23
