ANNUAL PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION STATUS OF ENERGY <ul><li>Gujarat- 1283.77 Kw/hr </li></ul><ul><li>Madhya Pradesh- 580.34 Kw/hr </li></ul><ul><li>Bihar- 85.86 Kw/hr </li></ul><ul><li>Energy poverty: 400million rural Indians (56% of population). </li></ul><ul><li>Cooking energy: 75% of rural households depend on firewood for cooking, 10% on dungcake and about 5% on LPG. </li></ul><ul><li>Lighting energy: 50% of rural households depend on kerosene and another 48% on electricity generated. </li></ul>

Impact <ul><li>On cooking: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>No eye burning due to smoke </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Reduced back pain due to less time required for cooking. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>One hour less time spent in cooking. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Food doesn’t have smell of smoke. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Men share some responsibility </li></ul></ul>

Impact <ul><li>On hard labour & One hour time for cleaning: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Utensils less blacken due to smoke of inferior fuel usage. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Her hands doesn’t get black while washing utensils. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>No black roof top. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>On time (1/2 day) for fuel collection: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Save time in preparing cow dung cake by mixing straw. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Save time & space for them to drying in sunlight. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Save time & space for storage. Time savings for women </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Improvement in health </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>No harassment </li></ul></ul>
  11. 11. Impact – Village level <ul><li>One Bio Gas plant annually save either of three: </li></ul><ul><li>48.2qtl fuel wood </li></ul><ul><li>171.0 qtl cow dung </li></ul><ul><li>574 ltr Kerosene oil. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Carbon emission <ul><li>1 cubic meter of biogas (One family) which will produce gas of equivalent to 5 KG of wood. </li></ul><ul><li>Emission reduction by using biogas one cubic meter biogas will reduce 9 Kg of CO2   (Net) per day. </li></ul><ul><li>AKRSP has constructed so far 10457 no. household level plants </li></ul>

Wind energy utilization for agri base livelihood enhancement <ul><li>Subsidized wind mill costs Rs. 1.05 lakh which have 60% govt. subsidy. </li></ul><ul><li>53 Farmers in adjoining area of Gir PA are using windmills for lifting ground water. </li></ul><ul><li>No electricity allowed in protected area so 53 rainfed farmers converted to irrigated farmers </li></ul><ul><li>Ensure water use efficiency in 85 ha. area </li></ul>
  15. 15. Innovative Cost Effective Wind Mill <ul><li>Developed from AKRSP experience in 2008. </li></ul><ul><li>Manufacturing cost Rs. 45000/- </li></ul><ul><li>Trained local fabricator to manufacture. </li></ul><ul><li>12 wind mill install since last year </li></ul>
  16. 16. Financial Support available <ul><li>Biogas govt subsidy Rs. 8000 per plant s available. </li></ul><ul><li>In Gujarat GEDA provide 60% subsidy (cost Rs1.05 lakh) </li></ul><ul><li>Solar lighting in collaboration with TERI 50% of Rs 75000/ cost (LABL) </li></ul>

Technological Solutions <ul><li>Solar energy appropriatenss on worst case scenerion than optimum level caliberations. </li></ul><ul><li>Affordability by increasing diverse product on solar energy solutions. </li></ul><ul><li>Solar+ Wind energy hybrid system for lighting purpose. </li></ul><ul><li>Exploring feasibility of LED based illumination. </li></ul><ul><li>Economic viable Energy solutions for computer training centers. </li></ul>

Challenges & Opportunities <ul><li>Attracting professionals of renewable energy to develop client oriented products. </li></ul><ul><li>Renewable energy developers struggling to increase reliabilty of sources. </li></ul><ul><li>Storage is still expensive. </li></ul><ul><li>Evolve market for quality products & effiecient maintenece support. </li></ul><ul><li>Renewable energy is always looked as part time solutions while in state like Bihar & MP grid based solutions will take next 10yrs. </li></ul><ul><li>Rural jobs and agricultural value added limited by lack of energy. </li></ul>

Challenges & Opportunities <ul><li>Developing business model for Household level home lighting options & its scaling up. </li></ul><ul><li>Developing feasible business model for wind mill and scaling it up in energy scarce area. </li></ul><ul><li>AKRSP developed Wind mills for water lifting & electricity generation can be scaled up in Bihar & MP. </li></ul><ul><li>In North Bihar water lifting is due to lack of energy, hence following options can be piloted: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Solar pumps </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Biogas fueled engines </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Biomass based gassifier </li></ul></ul>
