  • So, what is TGMC?
  • TGMC started in India in 2004 and now reaches &gt; 10K students a year Challenges take place in locations across the world
  • In 2012, TGMC will be coming to the US for the first time
  • The challenge is open to any student, whether an undergrad or graduate
  • from any discipline

  • And compete with other teams
  • To solve real-world problems posed by IBM and our business partners
  • For the chance to win prizes and internships
  • Participation is open to schools in the 2011 SPC2Y tour including Fordham, Pace, San Jose State, Notre Dame, Duke and more
  • The theme for the US in Spring 2012 is ‘Get Social. Do Business’

  • They look at how businesses can develop deeper relationships with customers
  • Through social customer relationship management
  • And how knowledge can be shared and stored within the enterprise
  • Through what’s commonly referred to as internal- or social collaboration
  • And the important role of social analytics in underpinning the whole system
  • ‘ Social’ is the name of the game
  • We’re talking about social business
  • What are the characteristics of a social business?
  • It’s a business that’s engaged: Connecting people – whether customers, partners or employees – to drive innovation
  • It’s transparent: Removing unnecessary boundaries inside and outside the organization
  • It’s nimble: Leveraging networks to speed up business, gain real-time insight and make quicker and better decisions
  • What do students have to do in the challenge?
  • In the first phase, students audit the current social business strategy of the company
  • In phase 2, each team builds a prototype social business application using the developerWorks social network
  • And integrates external social components
  • The company evaluates the prototype
  • How do students participate and when does the contest run?
  • Using the developerWorks platform, students register online
  • Access resources and reading materials through the media library
  • Register for webinars where they can learn from experts
  • Ask questions and communicate with IBM and participating businesses
  • What is happening when? In Fall 2011 we’re running a Field test with 20 teams from SJSU And planning the program launch for Spring 2012
  • In early 2012, TGMC Get Social. Do Business. Will be launched in the US Culminating in prizes and internships for top teams
