Thesis project This thesis will be co-directed in the Université of Franche-Comté and in the Universidad of Huelva , which participate to the CAENTI project. The research works started in June of 2007. Cette thèse fera l’objet d’une co-tutelle dans les Universités de Franche-Comté et de Huelva, toutes deux participant à la CAENTI. Les travaux de recherche ont débuté en juin 2007.

Defined objectives Through this thesis, we will study the migratory flows site-specification at the European scale. Our work hypothesis will be: the migratory flows site-specification is indispensable to better understand migrations and migrant people and consequently to better integrate the latter ones. Our thesis will aim at proving the actions addressed to the migrants should be developed at the local scale as the needs are different from a place to another one. A travers cette thèse, nous étudierons la territorialisation des flux migratoires à l’échelle européenne. Notre hypothèse de travail est la suivante : la territorialisation des flux migratoires est indispensable pour mieux comprendre les migrations et les migrants, et en conséquence pour mieux intégrer ces derniers. Notre thèse visera à prouver que les actions destinées aux migrants doivent être développées à l’échelle locale, car les besoins sont différents d’un endroit à un autre.

Through this thesis, we will study the migratory flows site-specification at the European scale.

Our work hypothesis will be: the migratory flows site-specification is indispensable to better understand migrations and migrant people and consequently to better integrate the latter ones.

Chosen methodology Our methodology will be multi-disciplinary and the knowledge will mainly come from territory sciences and law. Our methodology will also be comparative, to put into perspective the European models of social public polices. Our methodology will be systemic too, with developed multi-causes and actors’ game dimensions. We will have recourse to a prospective and dynamic vision of the relations between migrations and governance. La méthodologie sera multidisciplinaire et les connaissances proviendront principalement des sciences du territoire et du droit. La méthodologie sera aussi comparative, afin de mettre en perspective les modèles européens de politiques publiques sociales. La méthodologie sera également systémique, avec des dimensions multi- causalités et jeu d’acteurs très développées. Nous aurons recours à une vision prospective et dynamique des relations entre migrations et gouvernance.

Next steps of the research work On the short-term, we will deeply study the migrations legal frameworks in the European countries and contact people who determine the European social public policies towards migrants and who apply them. On the mid-term, we will draw a map of the migratory flows at the European scale; it will be particularly detailed as regards the migrants’ origin and the place where they settle, as well as the migration kind they belong to.
