Deliverance from the Ites

  1. 1. JUDGES 6:1-16; JUDGES 7:16-22Elder Jerrod A. Henderson, Ph.D. September 5, 2012 1
  2. 2.  “ites” are distractions that attempt to hinder you from reaching the promises of God Recall the children of Israel often found themselves fighting against nations such as the Canaanites, Amalekites, Midianites, etc. these were their “ites”o attempted to I don’t know what your “ites” are, but perhaps you are struggling with the following “ites” Depression-ites Debt-ites Sin-ites un-forgiven-ites opinions of people-ites Bittern-ites 2
  3. 3. 3
  4. 4. If you desire deliverance from your “ites” understand that “the buck stops here!” Take responsibility and get involved in your own delivery. NO more shifting the blame. 4
  5. 5. “And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into thehand of Midian seven years. 5
  6. 6. And the hand of Midianprevailed against Israel: andbecause of the Midianites thechildren of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. 6
  7. 7. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, eventhey came up against them; 7
  8. 8. 4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. Point 1:“ites” come to destroy your increase 8
  9. 9. 5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers formultitude; for both they and theircamels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. 9
  10. 10. 6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of theMidianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord. Point 2:Cry unto the Lord for deliverance 10
  11. 11. 7 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites, 8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which saidunto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up fromEgypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; 11
  12. 12. 9 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out ofthe hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; Point 3:Remembering what God has already done can aid you in achieving deliverance 12
  13. 13. 10 And I said unto you, I amthe Lord your God; fear notthe gods of the Amorites, inwhose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice. Point 4:To be delivered from your “ite” don’t forget the “me” factor… (Your own contribution to your struggles) 13
  14. 14. 11 And there came an angel of theLord, and sat under an oak which wasin Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideonthreshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. 14
  15. 15. 12 And the angel of the Lordappeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. Point 5: You will be delivered if youunderstand that the Lord is with you 15
  16. 16. 13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why thenis all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told usof, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. Point 6: For deliverance, get rid of your complaints 16
  17. 17. 14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, andthou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? Point 7:For deliverance Take action  GO Notice how God addresses the call and not the complaint… Gideon’s call was to GO! 17
  18. 18. 15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold,my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my fathers house.16 Andthe Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. 18
