    • Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence, and one of the most influential Founding Fathers for his promotion of the ideals of Republicanism in the United States. Major events during his presidency include the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the failed Embargo Act of 1807. Thomas Jefferson was the first Democratic president.

    • Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president but he also served as many other figures in U.S. government including the first secretary of state, 2nd vice president, and governor to his home town of Virginia. Jefferson had strong ties with the French. Although many Federalists in American Government didn’t completely trust Jefferson, he didn’t treat them harshly.
  • 4. Early Life
    • Jefferson was born into a rich and well known family, he was the 3rd of 10 children. At the age of 14, Jefferson began studying the languages of Latin, French, and Greek. Jefferson’s father died the same year and he inherited 5,000 acres of land where he built his estate, Monticello, years later. After Jefferson’s father died, Jefferson received education from James Maury for 2 years, he studied history and science there.

  • 6. Belief Structure
    • Thomas Jefferson was the first Democratic Republican to become a president. He preferred strong state governments instead of a strong federal government like federalists. Jefferson also believed that farmers and poorer people should rune the government instead of just the rich landowning men, he wore casual clothes, and shook hands. Jefferson did say that he thought slavery was bad however he had over a 100 slaves himself!
