      • Identify and clearly articulate the primary goals of the Web site before beginning the design process
      • Clearly and prominently communicate the purpose and value of the Web site on the homepage
      • Provide content that is engaging, relevant, and appropriate to the audience
      • Consider as many user interface issues as possible during the design process
      • Ensure the Web site is arranged in a logical way
      • Enable users to access the homepage from any other page on the Web site
      • Present all major options on the homepage.
      • Limit the homepage to one screen full of information, if at all possible.
      • Create pages that are not too crowded with items of information. Maryland Dept of Natural Resources
      • Visually align page elements, either vertically or horizontally.
      • Put an email link on the page
      • Add alternative text links for image maps
      • Use a spell checker
      • Test with different computers and speeds
      • Provide links to outside sources and materials
      • Make pages too long
      • Make users wait for more than a few seconds for a page to load
      • Clutter Pages
      • Overuse large graphics
      • Overdo colors
      • Use phrases like Return, Back, Click Here
      • Steal copyrighted material
      • Just convert print material
      • Use a construction sign instead of content
      • Put important information at the bottom of the page
      • Automatically Play sounds
      • Use Serif Fonts i.e.. Times New Roman
      • USE ALL CAPS
      • Overuse BOLD
      • Overuse Italics
