    • Welcome to Fourth Grade!Presented by your Fourth Grade Team: Laura Alexander Carla Dudley Ann Scott Lee Landon Nast
    • The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation• The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundationprovides an ongoing and dependable funding source for critical academic "extras" (i.e.technology, teacher training and development, and library enhancement).     • Attendance• New attendance program: • Bell rings at 7:50 students not in the room will be marked missing. • If a student misses any part of the day it will be counted as a tardy on the report card. • Form to fill out at the end of this presentation for checkout authorization.
    • Grades• First year for numerical grades• Graded papers will be sent home on a regular basis.• Please return progress folder with papers inside. Initial the progress form within the folder.• Interims
    • Homework• 30 minutes of nightly reading• Reading log• Check agenda nightly for homework and test updates.• Sign student agendas each night.• Homework is child’s responsibility
    • Communication• Contact – Email – Agenda – Take home folder – Website• Absences – request work before 10:15• Best time for a conference, if needed, is from 12:30 – 1:15 except Tuesday.
    • Procedures• Carpool – Drop off before 7:30 – students are to go through front doors to library – After 7:30 – 4th grade to lunchroom• Birthday• Pay Pams – for lunch money – www.paypams.com
    • Language Arts• Writing• Grammar and Mechanics• Spelling – Harcourt spelling series words will be in agenda – Test given through Spelling City – 20 words and 5 challenge words
    • Reading• Various resources – Harcourt – Companion readers – Literature circles – Where the Red Fern Grows and Belle Teal– novel studies• Comprehension and Vocabulary
    • Math Units of Study • Factors, Multiples, and Arrays • Multiplication and Division • 2-D Geometry • Addition and Subtraction with Large Numbers • Graphing and Probability • Fractions and Decimals • 3-D Geometry • Patterns, Functions, and Change
    • Investigations Math• Daily Lessons • Homework – Ten Min Math – Family Letter at start of unit on 4th grade landing – Math Activity page – Review a Previously – Used for reinforcement Introduced Concept – Review pages – Practice (in class and homework) – Games are played to • Pearson Success Net reinforce skills – Online reference program – Math Computation – strategy work and number talks
    • Technology• Updated Technology Usage Agreement – New gmail accounts for students – Identity safety• Keyboarding – Programs at school – Practice at home - Dancemat free from home• Laptops – Purchased by The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation – Headphones• iPad• Technology Projects – Podcast, VoiceThread, Photo Story, Class Blog

    • Ranger Council• The fourth graders responsibility as members of Ranger Council is Safety Patrol.• Each student will have the opportunity to participate.• Please sign the permission form which will be sent home this week.
