    FossilRecord Block1 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Fossil Record Made By: Max Burns, Kathleen Hail and Brooke Stein
    2. Fossil
      • Fossils - the remains of long dead organisms preserved in rocks
    3. Preservation
      • Preservations - part of what helps keep the fossil record in check with evolution.
      • Layers of sediment determine the time line of the fossil
      Change Through Time
    4. Change Through Time
      • Geologic time can tell us where the fossil dates.
    5. Change Through Time
      • Changes can make the difference of whether the species survive or not.
    6.
    7. Study of the Fossil Record
      • Provided at least 4 important different purposes:
      • Describes evolution.
      • Finds quick and easy way to assign age.
      • Describe time intervals.
      • Used to indentify geologic relations.
    8. Darwin’s Revolutionary Theory
      • 4 Components
      • Variation exists within a species
      • Over production of organisms
      • Competition for survival
      • The fittest member of a species will survive in that area
    9. Evolutionary Fossils
      • The fossils can show what species existed at a point in time.
    10. Evolutionary Fossils
      • Fossils are key to finding sequences of the sediment rock that shows timeline of species.
    11. Evolutionary Fossils
      • The fossils are clear evidence of changes that have occurred over time on our planet.
    12. Proof of Evolution
      • Vertebrates
      • Evolution of Birds
      • Evolution of whales
      • All of these examples have helped many paleontologists determine evolution is an actual factor in species changing.
    13. Examples
      • Fish  Horse
