We will examine the principles, policies, and practices relevant to the recruitment, development, utilization and evaluation of human resource within an organizational system. Students will come to understand the basic foundations to human resource theories and practices. Building Employment Commitment </li></ul>Course Outline: Human resource management is a course designed to analyze how organizations gain sustainable competitive advantages with and through people. Throughout the course, you will be presented with problems, questions, and projects that will require you to demonstrate your ability to assess and manage human resource problems that are often faced by the modern day organization. Specific course assignments and discussions will cover HR systems, planning, designing, development and policies, and examine recruitment practices, social capital, equal employment opportunity and employment rights. Through assignments and discussions, we will explore HR systems with regard to planning, designing, development and policies. You will also examine recruitment practices with regard to social capital, equal employment opportunity and employment rights.<br /> Class Structure:<br /><ul><li>Faculty facilitation of theoretical knowledge and its application

Attend class on-time and prepared </li></ul>Class Policies and Procedures<br />Class Attendance: You are expected to adhere to the guidelines for attendance outlined in the Morrisville State College’s Student Handbook. Absences number greater than 3 may result in your dismissal from the course and receiving a failing grade. Students arriving late are responsible to inform the instructor of their attendance or they will be marked absent. Students are responsible for all course material covered and assignments given, regardless of their absences. <br />Class Participation: You are expected to participate in all classroom activities, discussions and topic related exercises. Your comments and recommendations in the classroom must add value to the subject matter that is being discussed with respect for the opinions of others. Your performance will be evaluated on how well you communicate and interact with your fellow classmates, contributing to team projects, study groups presentations and in-class debates. Your opinion and ideas needs to be expressed through the lens of a critical thinker. Your participation in the classroom will be measured/ and evaluated into your grades. <br />Cell Phones & Laptops: All cell phones must be turned off during the class except in an emergency situation, which it is the student’s responsibility to bring the situation to the attention of the instructor. Cell phone disruption will not be tolerated in the classroom. Laptops are welcome as learning aids only, for taking notes and participation in classroom activities. The usage of your laptops should not interrupt the classroom or take you away from the lecture. <br />Academic Honesty & Grading<br />Academic Honesty: Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, is a serious offense at Morrisville State College with serious consequences. Ignorance of a rule is not an affirmative defense for breaking that rule. You are expected to have read the policy on plagiarism in the student handbook.   28. 28. 60 – Below (F)</li></ul>Late Assignment Policy: The granting of any assignment extension of incomplete request is up the discretion of the instructor. Extension on assignments must be requested in writing prior to the due date. Students that have experienced an uncontrolled emergency or sickness that caused them to get behind on their assignment are encouraged to make a formal extension request. A doctor’s note or other proof of sickness or emergency may be requested by the instructor as proof. <br />Assignments are due at the start of the class session on their due date. Assignments may be submitted via email (attached file)or fax by prior arrangement with the instructor if the student will not be able to attend class. Assignments will be penalized one letter grade for each 24-hour period they are late. Late or make-up exams will not be given except under exceptional documented circumstances at the sole discretion of the instructor. There will be no make-up work for any oral presentations, midterm assignment, group presentation and the final project. <br />Incomplete grades will be granted only for work unavoidably missed at the semester’s end and only if 70% of the course work has been completed by the student. Be proactive, last minute requests will not likely be honored. An incomplete grade must be resolved within two (2) weeks from the first day of the subsequent long semester. Answers need to be written in complete sentences and paragraphs. Answers need to add value to the subject matter using supportive references and opinions. Answers should not be open ended – be a critical thinker and think outside the box. <br />Midterm exam: The midterm exam will cover the materials from the first seven classes, the theories, concepts, research and component of HR Management. The midterm will be a multiple choice test, consisting of 50 questions. You will be given an hour to complete the test during class time. <br />Group Project: You will be grouped into a team in the first week of class. Your team will be asked to review a case study, where your team will be asked to distinguish and articulate the critical issue(s) in an organization. Your team will than conduct a formal presentation to the class where you will present your case study, findings and solutions. The presentation and notes should display the depth of your team’s knowledge and understanding of course concepts by applying principles that your team have learned while dealing with issues of newly emerging data. Your team will also be judge on how well you learned to communicate and work with each other. <br />Finals: Final assignment will be a research project. The assignment will be reviewed in class in week 13. <br />
