Searching Tips Advanced Searching Features Click on “Advanced Search” link Limits:  Language  File format (ie – pdf)  Date  Field (ie-search within title of webpage)  Domain name – search within any specific website Definitions: type “define” prior to the search word or phrase (ex: define postmodernism) Exact phrase: use quotation marks Calculate: type calculation into search box (ex: 978/456) Conversions: type conversion (ex: 35 celsius in fahrenheit) Local weather: type weather zip code (ex: weather 17027) Local movie times: type movie: title zip code (ex: movie: Cars 17027) Stock quote: type stocks:code (ex: stocks:ncesa) Google Sites Click “More” after the listing of Google subsets: Google Scholar – Search more scholarly literature Blog Search Book Search – full text of selected books Images – search pictures News Video
    2. Searches for scholarly materials such as peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from broad areas of research. Google Scholar searches academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, and scholarly articles available across the web. Some of the content is available in full text, while in some instances abstracts with links to pay-for document delivery services are displayed. NOTE: If articles from Messiah College databases are listed, Google will direct users (on-campus) to the article. Google Scholar search tips  Author search: use first initial (for broader results) & quotation marks  Title search: use quotation marks Example: “gracious Christianity” HOW TO: Link to Messiah College Library Resources from Google Scholar 1. Search for topic 2. Look for “Full Text @ Library”, or “Library Search” links 3.
