  • Are you ready for retirement? -- Participant Guide SECTION III: EXPLORING FURTHER Question 1 wanted to explore if you have started to commit today’s money toward your retirement. Some people may say the following…. I don't have enough money to start investing. Something to consider, a minimum contribution of $10 a pay would only impact your take some pay by about $8. More importantly the longer you wait increases the likelihood your retirement account may not get as big you think. Question 2 wanted to explore if you are doing what you can to accelerate the growth of your retirement. Some people may say the following…. I have not gotten a raise so I can not contribute any more. Something to consider, a raise is one of many ways your cash flow can increase. Another way cash flow increases is to decrease your expenses. One may have refinanced or paid off some debt. Or cut eating out from 4 times a week to 3 times a week. Question 3 wanted to explore if you are taking the steps necessary to make sure each hard earned dollar that you invest is being used to its fullest potential. Some people may say the following…. Investing is too complicated so I am just going to pick the best performing funds and leave the money there. Something to consider, you can follow a general investment model or select an investment option that will manage the account for you. These options are great for hands-off investors. Question 4 wanted to explore if you have projected how much of today’s money will you need to put away in order to secure your current standard of living. Some people may say the following…. I will have plenty of money for retirement. This account will be my extra money. Something to consider, is there really a such thing as TOO MUCH for retirement. 12/24/2008 4
  • Are you ready for retirement? -- Participant Guide SECTION IV: GETTING READY TO TAKE ACTION Action Points: 1. If you have not started saving for retirement, today’s the day. You don’t want to lose anymore time. 2. If you have started saving for retirement, wonderful! Continue to increase your contributions, at a minimum of once per year, to truly maximize the value of your retirement account. 3. Once you have truly maximized what YOU can contribute, make sure you take the next step by reviewing your investments, at least, every 6 months. 4. Once you have maximized your contributions and know how your money is invested properly. Know how much you will need by the time you will retire so there will be no surprises and you can make adjustments along the way. SECTION IV: PERSONAL REFLECTION / WRAP UP 12/24/2008 5
